Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyvinyl acetal copolymer having high photosensitivity, excellent in adhesiveness to an aluminum substrate, having high print-continuing stability, and further capable of giving such a photosensitive composition that has satisfied quality by using the least possible components (it is preferable from an economical viewpoint) and exhibits the same or partially improved performance in comparison with other compositions known in the current technical level, when the copolymer is used for the photosensitive composition. SOLUTION: This polyvinyl acetal copolymer is obtained by reacting at least two kinds of aldehydes at the same time with a polyvinyl alcohol having a number average molecular weight of 20,000-150,000 g/mol.
Abstract:
An aqueous developer for imageable elements that contain a radiation-sensitive initiator system and at least one free radical polymerizable material and a method for forming an image are disclosed. The developer contains water, a buffer, and one or more filter dyes and/or one of more free radical inhibitors. The imageable elements are useful as printing plates. The developer develops exposed imageable elements quickly for form printing plates, with high throughput, but with no sludge formation in the developing process.
Abstract:
A photoconductive composition useful for the preparation of printing plates is disclosed. The composition comprises an organic photoconductor, a charge carrier generating material, and a binder comprising a mixture of at least two copolymers. Copolymer (a) comprises, in polymerized form, an aromatic vinyl monomer, such as styrene or a substituted styrene, and maleic acid anhydride ring opened with a first aliphatic alcohol. Copolymer (b) comprises, in polymerized form, the following monomers: CH2=CH(CH2)n-OR, in which n is 0 or 1, and R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, aliphatic groups having 1 to about 10 carbon atoms, and -COR' in which R' is an aliphatic group having 1 to about 10 carbon atoms, such as vinyl alcohol; maleic acid anhydride ring opened by a second aliphatic alcohol; and, optionally, CH2=CH-R'', in which R'' is a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic residue comprising from about 6 to about 20 ring atoms selected from the group consisting of carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur, in which not more than 3 ring atoms are selected from the group consisting of oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur.
