An apparatus in an elevator for detecting and stopping an uncontrolled movement of the car when a machine brake intended to keep the elevator car immovable is on. The apparatus comprises a motion detector (1) for detecting movement of the car (2) and the length of the movement when the machine brake is on (10), a stopping device (3) for stopping an uncontrolled movement of the car, and limit and control means (4) for defining an allowed car movement and controlling the operation of the stopping device according to information obtained from the motion detector.

The invention relates to a safety device arrangement for an elevator door opening, said safety device arrangement comprising at least a toe guard (3) placed substantially at the lower edge of the elevator car and a safety circuit (21) connected to the elevator system. The safety device arrangement comprises a safety circuit breaker (16) placed on the toe guard (3) and a bypass breaker (17) connected to the safety circuit (21), said bypass breaker being fitted to bypass the safety circuit breaker (16) at least when the elevator is at or close to the lowest landing floor.

The present invention relates to a safety arrangement of an elevator, which comprises a mechanical safety device (3, 4, 11) that ensures the safety of the elevator hoistway (2) and can be moved into a use position, and which safety arrangement of an elevator comprises a detector (5) of intrusion into the elevator hoistway, which detector is fitted to receive measuring data (6) from the sensors (7) that measure the status of the entrances (9, 10) of the elevator hoistway, and also to determine intrusion into the elevator hoistway (2) from the measuring data received, and after determining an intrusion to switch the safety arrangement of the elevator into an operating mode (8) in which driving with the elevator is prevented. The system provides regional and local supervision and monitoring of elevator equipment. The system is a modular system containing a service centre set of equipment and an on-site set of equipment connected to one building. The communication between the sets off equipment being implemented using a remote communication link. A connection is provided, via the on-site equipment from an elevator car to a service center and vice versa. A connection can be established between an elevator car and a pre-selected service point by the on site equipment.
