Abstract: A water ring scanning apparatus and method, and an apparatus and method for encoding/decoding video sequences using the same are disclosed. A water ring scanning apparatus includes: a preferential scan unit for scanning information on a water ring origin point (water_ring(0)) in an image frame, which is a most significant bit of the image frame to be preferentially scanned; a scan location decision unit for deciding a location of i_th generated water ring (water_ring(i)), which is a rectangular-shape ring surrounding the water ring origin point; and a scan unit for scanning information on the location of the i_th generated water ring.

Abstract: Provided is an error correcting encoder and, more particularly, to an error correcting encoder used for an improved transmission method of the Advanced Television System Committee (ATSC), and a method thereof. The error correcting encoder for digital television broadcasting, which is suggested in the present research, includes a robust encoder for encoding a one-bit input into robust encoded data; a pre-coding block for receiving the robust encoded data and performing pre-coding to thereby produce a pre-coded signal; and a trellis encoding block for performing trellis encoding on the robust encoded data and the pre-coded signal.

Abstract: Aparato de codificación de imágenes adaptado para un orden de exploración en anillos de agua, mediante el cual después de procesar datos de imagen en un punto de origen del anillo de agua (anillo de agua (0)), se procesan los siguientes datos de imagen en el anillo de agua (1) adyacente, que son los datos de imagen adyacentes al perímetro del anillo de agua (0) anterior y luego se procesan continuamente los datos de imagen del siguiente anillo de agua (2) adyacente y así sucesivamente, de manera que el procesamiento de datos de imagen que aparece como anillos de agua se expande a través de la imagen, comprendiendo dicho aparato: un medio de inicio de exploración en anillos de agua para comenzar un procedimiento de exploración en anillos de agua en al menos un punto de origen de anillos de agua (anillo de agua (0)) en una trama de imagen; un medio de determinación de ubicación de exploración en anillos de agua para determinar una ubicación de un anillo de agua (anillo de agua (1)) que es un anillo de agua de forma rectangular que rodea el punto de origen en el que se determina un siguiente anillo de agua como ubicación de un anillo de agua de forma rectangular (anillo de agua (i)) que rodea el anillo de agua que se procesa previamente; y un medio de exploración en anillos de agua para explorar la trama de imagen secuencialmente basándose en los anillos de agua determinados por el medio de determinación de ubicación de exploración en anillos de agua, mediante lo cual dicho aparato codifica una determinada parte de la imagen con una prioridad máxima y luego realiza de manera repetida el procedimiento de codificación de la parte contigua de la imagen.

Abstract: Stereoscopic video is encoded and decoded by using the MAC defined by the existing MPEG-4 standard. The stereoscopic video is divided into one image as a single video object, and another image as auxiliary information for the image established as the video object. The auxiliary information includes a horizontal disparity map, a vertical disparity map, luminance residual texture, and chrominance residual texture, which are respectively allocated to auxiliary components of the MAC according to importance and complexity of the images, encoded, and then output as a single encoding stream.
