Abstract:
Methods for regenerating or improving the regeneration of a particulate filter and for improving the performance of a particulate filter during the operation of an internal combustion engine comprise lubricating the engine with a lubricant composition comprising additives that when combusted can form an ash deposit in the filter. The methods are particularly useful for diesel particulate filters on diesel engines that are equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation system.
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine with a catalyst-containing exhaust-gas aftertreatment device is lubricated with a composition of a base oil; and a zinc salt of a mixture of phosphorus-containing compounds having hydrocarbyl groups R 1 and R 2 where the average total number of carbon atoms in R 1 plus R 2 for the mixture of phosphorus-containing compounds is at least 9.5, where 4 to 30 weight percent of such groups contain 2 to 4 carbon atoms and where in less than 8 mole percent of the phosphorus-containing molecules in the mixture of phosphorus- containing compounds each of R 1 and R 2 contain 2 to 4 carbon atoms.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a low sulfur, low phosphorus, low-ash, zinc free consumable lubricant composition suitable for use in an internal combustion engine, comprising: an oil of lubricating viscosity containing less than 0.01 percent by weight of sulfur; a high TBN succinimide dispersant and overall all lubricant composition that has a sulfated ash value of up to about 0.2, a phosphorus content of up to about 50 to about 800 ppm and a sulfur content of up to about 0.4 percent by weight.
Abstract:
Lubricant compositions comprising (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity; and (b) at least one non-metal-containing additive, comprising a nitrogen-containing dispersant having a total base number of at least about 90 are useful for lubricating an internal combustion engine. The lubricants have less than 1.0% sulfated ash and a total base number of at least about 8.5, and at least 30% of the total base number of the composition is provided by non-metal-containing additives. The lubricants exhibit a high TBN without deterioration of elastomeric seals.

Abstract:
A lubricant composition of a synthetic oil of lubricating viscosity, 3 to 6 percent by weight of a nitrogen-containing dispersant, 1 to 2.5 weight pe rcent of an overbased magnesium detergent, 1 to 5 weight percent of an antio xidant; and 0.25 to 1.5 weight percent of a friction modifier is useful for lubricating a hydrogen-fueled engine. The composition will typically contain less than 0.01 weight percent Ca, less than 0.01 weight percent Zn, less th an 0.06 weight percent P, and will have a sulfated ash level of less than 1. 2%.
