Abstract:
A lubricant suitable for lubricating a two-stroke cycle engine which is fueled with a liquid fuel having a volatility less than that of gasoline comprises an oleaginous synthetic ester, a normally liquid solvent having a kinematic viscosity of less than about 5 or 2 mm2/s at 100°C and a nitrogen-containing dispersant bearing a hydrocarbyl group of at least 26 carbon atoms and having a nitrogen content of at least 4 percent by weight. The nitrogen content of the lubricant is at least about 0.3 percent by weight.
Abstract:
The disclosed technology provides a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.2 wt % to 10 wt % of a salt of a hydroxyl functional aromatic compound. The disclosed technology further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricant composition.

Abstract:
A low-ash, low-phosphorus lubricant composition suitable for use in a stationary gas engine includes an oil of lubricating viscosity, 1.5 to 8 percent of a succinimide dispersant, 0.8 to 4.0 percent of a hindered, ester - substituted phenol antioxidant, and at least one metal-containing sulfonate detergent or metal-containing phenate detergent, in an amount which provides 1.1 to 2.1 percent by weight of said sulfonate or phenate moieties exclusive of the weight of the metal moieties. The lubricant contains up to 0.08 perce nt by weight phosphorus and up to 1.25 percent sulfated ash.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A method of lubricating an internal combustion engine with a power output of at least 1600 kilowatts, with a lubricating composition, the method comprising: (1) monitoring one or more performance characteristics of the engine; (2) selecting an additive package to provide a desired TBN level to a lubricating composition to modify the performance characteristics of the engine; (3) combining the additive package of step (2) with (a) a component having a viscosity of about 2 mm 2 /s to 12 mm 2 /s, comprising a light neutral base oil, and optionally (b) a component having a viscosity of above 12 mm 2 /s to about 40 mm 2 /s, comprising heavy neutral base oil or a brightstock, to form a lubricating composition; and (4) supplying the lubricating composition of step (3) to the engine.
Abstract:
A lubricating composition includes a sulfurized oxy-substituted aromatic polyol compound and an oil of lubricating viscosity. The sulfurized oxy-substituted aromatic polyol compound includes at least one of a sulfurized oxy-substituted aromatic polyol and a salt of a sulfurized oxy-substituted aromatic polyol. The compound is suitable as a replacement for detergents that contain Cn alkyl phenols derived from oligomers of propylene.
