Abstract: Non-polymeric esters of sulfur-containing hydroxy acids such as 6-hydroxy-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-3,4-dithiahexanoic acid are prepared by subjecting the acid to normal esterification reactions or by reacting the corresponding dialdehyde (e.g., 2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-3,4-hexanedial) with an alcohol in the presence of an alkali metal or an alkyl, alkoxide or hydride thereof. The esters include those in which one or both of the hydroxy and carboxy group are esterified, as well as lactones and cyclic esters. They are useful in paints, as rubber vulcanization accelerators, and as intermediates for the preparation of polyesters and polyurethanes, many of which are photodegradable.

The compositions can be prepared in solvent such as a hydrocarbon oil or in the absence of a solvent. TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to reacting polyamines and mono-functional acids with an acylating block copolymer. BACKGROUND Heretofore various solution reactions have been carried out between a polymer containing unsaturation and an anhydride. For example, U.S. Patent No. 2,524,424 to Buret relates to the treatment of rubberlike polymers from butadiene hydrocarbons with carboxylic acid anhydrides.

Abstract: Reaction products prepaid by reacting a) interpolymers of ethylene, one or more C,- C, .alpha.- monoolefins, and one or more polyenes selected from non-conjugated dienes and trienes, with b) one or more olefinic carboxylic acid acylating agents to form an acylating reaction intermediate which is further reacted with c) an amine, are disclosed. These reaction products have been found useful as multi- functional additives to a variety of lubricating oils for enhancing their dispersancy as well as improving their viscosity- temperature relationship.
