Abstract:
The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing a sulphur-free metal salt of a hydrocarbyl-substituted phosphorus compound and an organo-sulphide. The composition has a sulphur content of greater than 0.3 weight percent of sulphur. The invention further provides for a method of lubricating a driveline device by using a lubricating composition.
Abstract:
The invention relates to industrial gear oil compositions that have been specially designed to have improved friction and/or antiwear properties. That is the industrial gear oil compositions of the invention provide good performance and/or protection in the areas of friction and/or antiwear due to the use of a synergistic combination of additives. The industrial gear oil compositions of the invention utilize a combination of certain phosphorus-containing compounds and derivatives of a hydroxy-carboxylic acid, to provide a synergistic improvement in friction and/or antiwear properties.
Abstract:
The invention relates to industrial gear oil compositions that have been specially designed to be vibration resistant. That is the industrial gear oil compositions of the invention provide good performance and/or protection even when the equipment in which the composition is used is subjected to external vibration, including but not limited to vibration during transportation of the equipment. The industrial gear oil compositions include a combination of additives that provide surprisingly good protection against damage caused by vibration.

The invention further relates to a method of lubricating a transmission by employing the lubricating composition.
Abstract:
A lubricating composition is described which comprises a mixture of (A) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, (B) a dispersant effective amount of at least one ashless dispersant, and (C) a minor, effective amount of at least one demulsifier characterized by the formula wherein R is a hydrocarbyl group, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are each independently H or hydrocarbyl groups, and X is O or NR' wherein R' is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group. In one embodiment, the ashless dispersant is a carboxylic dispersant, and the demulsifier is a derivative of imidazoline. The lubricating compositions of the invention are characterized as having improved dispersancy, demulsibility, rust-inhibition and anti-wear properties.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing (a) an ester-containing viscosity index improver; and (b) a polyoxyalkylene polyol. The invention further provides a method for lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricating composition.
Abstract:
An additive mixture for grease compositions and gear lubricants has been developed. The additive mixture comprises at least one metal-containing composition and at least one sulfurized organic compound. This mixture has been found to impart an unexpected improvement in extreme pressure properties to grease compositions and gear lubricants.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent compatibility with lubricants and cooling agents by comprising a fluorine-containing hydrocarbon having a specific number of carbon atoms, an ester of a carboxylic acid with a polyhydric hydroxy com pound and an alkoxylated alcohol or phenol or an alkoxylated glycol at a specific ratio. SOLUTION: A composition comprises 10-90 wt.% fluorinecontaining 1-2C hydrocarbon; 5-90 wt.% ester of a carboxylic acid represented by the formula: R[OC(O)R ]n (wherein R is hydrocarbyl; R is H, 1-7C hydrocarbyl or the like; and n is 2-10) with a polyhydric hydroxy compound; and 0.1-5 wt.% alkoxylated alcohol or phenol represented by formula I (wherein R is 1-20C aliphatic, 6-24C aromatic or the like; R is H, methyl or ethyl; y is 1-3; and x is 2-50) or alkoxylated glycol represented by formula II (wherein R is 2-8C hydroxyalkyl; and R, y and x are the same as defined above).
Abstract:
This invention relates to a lubricant comprising (A) a basic metal salt of an acidic organic compound and (B) a hydrocarbyl phosphite, provided that the lubricant is free of metal deactivators. In one aspect the lubricant is a manual transmission fluid. The lubricants provide good friction, good antiwear and thermal stability properties.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and (A) a di or trihydrocarbyl phosphite, (B) at least one reaction product of a di or trihydrocarbyl phosphite and sulfur or a source of sulfur; at least one di or trihydrocarbyl monothiophosphate; or salt thereof, and (C) a salt of a hydrocarbyl phosphoric acid ester. In one embodiment, the lubricant composition contains less than 0.1% phosphorus or less than about 0.75% borated dispersant. This combination of phosphorus compounds provides antiwear and thermal stability to lubricants, even at low phosphorus levels. The lubricating compositions containing the combination of the phosphorus compounds has low corrosivity to copper and low odor as well.
