Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user not to concentrate on a specified machine for generating the presentation of information but to concentrate on the answer of a question supported by an interface. SOLUTION: While using an expandable natural word, an inquiry based on the natural word is expressed by converting it to the set of a data base inquiry and information to be provided to the user. Concretely, concerning the natural word inquiry, it is determined whether a complete data base inquiry can be formed on the basis of the natural word inquiry or not and when the inquiry can be formed, by specifying which complete data base inquiry is to be formed, the natural word inquiry is converted to the data base inquiry.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for providing interactive service with multiple interfaces. SOLUTION: The interactive service using module technique is provided. Support of understanding and dialogue of natural languages with a user is facilitated by applying the technique to an interface to enable inputs in different order, incomplete information, correction of information and return of control to the previous service event. The support is realized by using single interactive service logic using a reaction restriction graph. A node includes a restriction set regarding events in the graph. Specifically, the control proceeds from the node to a derivative node only when all restrictions in the set are satisfied. The incomplete information and the correction of information are supported respectively by supporting the input in different order, in addition, promptly evaluating the restrictions in the set and updating information in the set when a new piece of information is received by a single restriction set. Labeling to the node and the return of control to the previous node are enabled by using the graph.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for providing an interactive service with plural interfaces. SOLUTION: Support of understanding and dialogue of a natural language with a user is facilitated by enabling the user to provide information to exceed the one to be required for service and adapting a module technique to an interface 204 to enable an input in different order, incomplete information, correction of the information and return of control to the previous service point. The support is realized by using a single interactive service logic 201 using a reaction restriction graph in relation to a service monitor 202. Bi-directional service logic structure to use a form of a graph of event drive including restriction to an event in a node is adopted in the graph. This service monitor manages communication between a service logic device and the plural user interfaces and provides communication mechanism in a form called 'look ahead'.

Abstract: A sender (101) creates a voicemail message that includes a plurality of messaging elements that include embedded instructions that define a structur e of the message. Other messaging elements may include textual fragments, audio fragments that refer to audio data files that are associated with the messag e, and/or references to textual fragments and/or audio fragments that are stored at specified locations. The instructions may define a hierarchical menu structure which, when the message is presented to the recipient (106) by a messaging system (104), offers the recipient different navigational choices from which the recipient may select and thus effect the information content of what is presented. The structured message is sent by the sender to the recipient at an address on a messaging system that stores the message and is capable of interpreting and assembling the messaging elements in accordance with the embedded instruction and playing-out the message to t he recipient when the recipient accesses the system and retrieves the message from storage. The structured message may also include links to a specific destination, to which the messaging system establishes a connection if the link is selected by the recipient during play-out of the message. Further, the messaging system can gather information from the recipient during play-out and forward that information to a specified destination, which may respond with another structured message. In the described embodiment, a phone markup language is used to define the structur e and the inherent embedded instructions associated with the structure of the message.

Abstract: Interactive voice response (IVR) services are provided to an end user at a telephone terminal connected to the PSTN through a telephone/IP server that serves as an interface between the PSTN and an IP network such as the Internet. A first IVR service is provided by a web server running a service logic for that service, which produces pages formatted in a phone markup language (PML) in response to an HTTP request sent over the IP network by the telephone/IP server to the w eb server at the URL address associated with the service. These pages represent an interactive dialog for that first service, which when received by the telephone/IP server, are translated and converted to audio by an interpreter for audio presentation to the end user. The end users responses, either verbal or touch-tone, to questions posed during the dialog are collected by the telephone/IP server, translated , and forwarded to the web server. Hyperlinks to a second IVR service offered on a web server at a different URL address are embedded and associated with a specifi c question or statement in a PML-formatted page produced by the first service. When the end user affirmatively responds to that statement or question through a verbal or touch-tone input, the telephone/IP server translates that response as a "click" on the hyperlink and establishes a virtual connection to the hyperlinked URL addres s of the web server providing the second service. Further, information associated wit h the end users interaction with the first service, such as his identity, PIN, and/or zip code, is transferred to the second service by means of a cookie, URL encoding or other information transference mechanism, to provide an audio experience that seamlessly transfers the end user from the first service to the second.

Abstract: An apparatus for retrieving data from a first network site for use by a second network site utilizes a template that specifies the location of the data within a response solicited from the first network site. The template is a mark-up document having a similar format to the response and thus, it is not an application program. A mar ker is included within the template to determine the location of the data within the re sponse. A matching mechanism, which may be used with any template, is utilized to compar e the template with the response to determine the exact location of the data withi n the response. The data may be retrieved when its location within the response is ascertained. Once retrieved, the data may be used by the second network site for display in a format that is specified by the second network site. Accordingly, d ata is located within the response with a template and not with a scanning application program.
