    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a segment-oriented method for improving the trade-off between efficiency and precision for the handwritten character recognition system. SOLUTION: Shape information which is usable only through segment-like modeling is held by modeling selected segments, and the nonefficiency that all possible segments are modeled is evaded. A gap feature is defined which discriminates the spatial distance between successive strokes larger than a certain threshold value from the spatial distance between successive strokes smaller than the threshold value. A penalty evaluation point is added to an opposition hypothesis evaluation point showing a successive stroke where the spatial distance is larger than the threshold value to shift opposition hypothesis cumulative evaluation points toward the evaluation point showing that two successive strokes are discontinuous. A penalty is imposed on the opposition hypothesis evaluation point showing two successive strokes are continuous where the spatial distance is less than the threshold value.

SOLUTION: A contents interpolating web proxy server decides a specific client type related with client equipment by processing a client request generated by the cline equipment, and retrieves web contents identified according to the client request, and retrieves one or more augmentation files related with the web contents and the specific client type, and changes the web contents retrieved according to one or plural augmentation files. Then, the changed web contents are distributed to the client equipment.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize interactive voice resonse(IVR) application through the Internet. SOLUTION: An IVR platform 102 includes a voice synthesizer 116, a grammar generator 120 and a voice recognizer 122. The voice synthesizer 116 generates a voice for characterizing the structure and contents of a web to be acquired through a network. The voice is sent to a user through an audio interface device 108 such as a telephone set. The grammar generator 120 generates grammar by using text information analyzed from an acquired web page. The grammar is supplied to the voice recognizer 122 and used for interpreting a voice command generated by the user. It is also possible to partially or completely precompile the grammar generated by the grammar generator 120.

    Abstract: A platform for implementing interactive voice response (IVR) applications over the Internet or other type of network includes a speech synthesizer, a grammar generator and a speech recognizer. The speech synthesizer generates speech which characterizes the structure and content of a web page retrieved over the network. The speech is delivered to a user via a telephone or other type of audio interface device. The grammar generator utilizes textual information parsed from the retrieved web page to produce a grammar. The grammar is supplied to the speech recognizer and used to interpret voice commands and other speech input generated by the user. The platform may also include a voice processor which determines which of a number of predefined models best characterized a given retrieved page, such that the process of generating an appropriate verbal description of the page is considerably simplified. The speech synthesizer, grammar generator, speech recognizer and other elements of the IVR platform may be operated by a Internet Service Provider (ISP), thereby allowing the general Internet population to create interactive voice response applications without acquiring their own IVR equipment.
