Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an external output control loop method for setting a target SIR using a measured FER to work sufficiently in a high-speed fading state. SOLUTION: A method for accelerating the output control using a channel state estimation scheme is provided, wherein the estimation of channel state is equivalent to measuring or estimating channel parameters including the speed of a moving station, Doppler diffusion, K factor, the number of multiplexed channels, and the intensity of each of multiplexed channel, but not limited to these parameters. One or more relation between the channel state and a target signal-to-interference ratio or between other control thresholds are determined. Using the determined relations, the target signal-to-interference ratio or other control thresholds are set. This method has the advantage of estimating or measuring the channel state at much shorter time intervals than service quality parameters such as a frame error rate and bit error rate, accelerating the output control and increasing the system capacity.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate in real time a optimum up-transmission step size and an optimum down-transmission step size as functions of wireless environment parameters. SOLUTION: This invention provides a method for discriminating in real time an optimum transmission step size as a function of one wireless environmental parameter or more by using a channel state estimate scheme, the channel state estimate includes a speed of a mobile station, Doppler spread, a K factor, number of multi-paths, and strength of each multi-path but this invention provides a method equivalent to measure or estimate a channel parameter not limited to them. The channel state is used for estimation to discriminate the optimum transmission step size, which can be on the basis of a desired service quality parameter. Increasing or decreasing a transmission output level by a quantity nearly equal to the optimum transmission step size when the optimum transmission step size is discriminated adjusts the transmission output level.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To well allocate the channel codes by allocating a selected shorter channel code after it's verified that several longer channel codes dependent on the shorter channel code are available for the allocation. SOLUTION: When a longer channel code is required, a 1st channel is selected in a processing block. Then it's decided in a decision block whether or not the selected channel is available. If the selected channel is not available, a list of chip channel codes is searched and the next channel is selected. It's decided again whether or not the next channel is available in the decision block. If the channel is available, the channel is allocated to a user in the processing block. Then the channel is marked unavailable in the processing block.

Abstract: In a wireless communication system, unique methods are presented to dynamically assign channel codes of different lengths in a manner to maintain orthogonality among assigned channels. In one embodiment of the method of the invention, channel codes that require relatively long-lengths are assigned from a first end of a list of unassigned channel codes and channel codes of a shorter length are assigned from an opposing end of a list of unassigned channel codes. Assignment of a shorter length code sequence is made if the longer-length channel codes that depend from the proposed shorter-length code sequence are available. In another embodiment of the invention, the availability of short length channel codes is derived directly from the availability of the longest length channel codes. In this embodiment of the invention, a group of longest-length channel codes that contain a common shorter-length code of the desired length are checked for availability. If all the codes of the group are available then the common shorter-length code may be assigned to the transmission. Further, in accordance with the methods of the invention by assigning transmissions that require longer-length sequences from a first end of a list of channel codes and shorter length sequences from an opposing end of a list of channel codes, the number of channels available for shorter length sequences is maximized.
