Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch an ATM connection of an ATM adaptive layer AAL-2 packet to other ATM connection in a sub ATM cell level such as logic link connection(LLC) by bundling again the ATM adaptive layer AAL-2 packet in the case that a plurality of sources and a destination are included in connection among a plurality of termination nodes. SOLUTION: An LLC server 200 bundles again two LLC packets according to two transfer tables each denoting each direction of communication and the packets are divided into two, which arrives at an adaptor TAB205 and outputs from an adaptor TAS215. Each column of the transfer tables maps a specific virtual channel connector(VCC) and a CID through a specific port to a channel IDCID in VCC, then the LLC server 200 bundles again a payload of the LLC packet arrived in the TAS205 into a new LLC packet with a new CID and gives the new LLC packet to a proper port on a designated VCC to switch the packets.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide system introduction with flexibility by raising and expanding an architecture stepwise while reutilizing many of existing voice communication infra as they are at the time replacing a cellular communication system based on channels/packets with a system capable of handling data. SOLUTION: The introduction is desirably performed through four stages. In a first stage, a conventional cellular exchanging device 10 is connected to a radio base station 12 and a public exchange telephone network and achieves a standard digital exchange function and a voice call control processor 28 performs call control and charge management. Also, a data digital cellular (data DC) exchanging device 46 is connected to the public exchange telephone network and a public exchange packet data network and achieves an ATM exchange function and a data call control processor 48 performs the call control and the charge management. The exchanging devices 10 and 46 are connected by a converter 66 front a channel packet to ATM and the mutual exchange connection of a call is performed. In a second stage, the processors 28 and 48 are integrated. In a third stage, the respective radio base stations are unitarily controlled and managed under an ATM exchange basic structure 50.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a simple point-to-point data link protocol(SDL) based on the use of a length indicator field and an error check field not on the use of a flag to recover a packet border in a receiver. SOLUTION: An SDL transmitter 105 sends an SDL packet consisting of a header and a PDU (payload) of a variable length. The header consists of a length indicator (L1) field, a type field and a cyclic redundancy check CRC field. A receiver 150 blocks a packet as a function of the LI field to conduct self-synchronization as functions of the LI field and the header CRC field, that is, recovers the packet. In the recovering the packet especially, the receiver 150 applies CRC check to each reception SDL packet header and declares synchronization after the check by N times (e.g. N=4) is correct.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a pattern of a user data from being metched with a transmission scrambling pattern by scrambling a data gram before the data gram is scrambled by a transmission system again. SOLUTION: A bit which forms a data gram being processed by a simplified data link(SDL) processor 100 is scrambled before the data gram supplies a set/reset scrambler 501 used for surely maintaining synchronous state. In this case, a frame assembler 300 receives a data bit forming the data gram to be obtained, scrambles the bit of data gram based on a specific code and then assembles the result with a scrambling result and path overhead information into a pay load. Moreover, a scrambler circuit scrambles the pay load and related transfer overhead information and outputs the result as a frame of the data.

Abstract: A simplified data link protocol which may be implemented in a very high-speed transmission system, e.g., SONET, processes a datagram received from an IP facility according to QoS considerations and scrambles a datagram before it is again scrambled by a transmission system, e.g., a SONET transmitter, to ensure that the pattern of a user's data does not match the transmission scrambling pattern. The data link protocol scrambler also employs a novel synchronization scheme. We also use a pointer system which identifies the location of a datagram in a frame to eliminate flags and the need to process user data to ensure that it does not contain and a boundary flag.

Abstract: Four stages of digital cellular architecture are presented which reuse much of the existing voice infrastructure while allowing graceful introduction of data and integrated voice/data services over industry standard, low cost platforms. First, a separate ATM-based infrastructure (46) is introduced that supports data services. A new data call control is introduced on industry standard hardware platforms using object oriented and modular programming. Second, ATM is introduced at radio ports (68) and call control functions are migrated to the new ATM-based call control platforms (72, 74). Third, vocoders (76) are introduced at the DCS. Fourth, the cellular functions of the legacy cellular switch (10) are phased out and replaced by the ATM-based target architecture.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a cellular communication system that is comprised of a plurality of base stations and radio ports that communicate over an air interface with a plurality of terminal devices, where the radio ports have asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) interfaces. A cellular switch is provided having circuit-switching fabric and vocoders, where the base stations are connected to the circuit-switching fabric by first communications links, and where the circuit-switching fabric is also connected to a public switched telephone network (PSTN). A cellular call control processor is associated with the cellular switch, that handles a voice call routed through the cellular switch. A digital cellular switch (DCS) having ATM fabric and radio link protocol processors is also provided, where the circuit switching fabric is connected to the ATM fabric by a second communications link via a converter that converts between the transmission format of the first communications links and ATM, the ATM fabric being connected to the radio ports by ATM virtual links. One or more standard hardware platforms implement ATM transport that perform a plurality of call control functions including the handling of data calls from/to the base stations and radio ports. A network interworking module interfaces the DCS toa communications network.
