Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reinforce a power control ability by deciding a vocoding rate before receiving the sequence of a downward frame or an interleaving frame. SOLUTION: In a base station 14, one frame is organized, which includes an information bit in the vocoding rate as a channel bit in one channel rate, in order to transmit a downward signal on a traffic channel and at least one rate indicating bit which expresses the vocoding rate is arranged in the head part of the frame. In a mobile station 16, downward transmission power is calculated by taking the vocoding rate expressed by at least one rate indicating bit in consideration and the vocoding rate is decided by decoding the head part of the frame so that power control is executed in a period being shorter than one frame from the repetition of the first frame.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antenna configuration whereby the effective regions of signals are maximized and the interferences of signals are suppressed to a minimum both in a cell and among several adjacent cells thereto. SOLUTION: For a radio communication network, a system and its method for configuring and reconfiguring a cylindrical antenna array are developed. After receiving continuously from a mobile radio equipment its positional and signal informations, the reconfiguration of the antenna components of the cylindrical antenna array are so determined by using these informations as to improve the performances of the system. For this purpose, the interferences of antenna signals with each other and the drops of callings from the mobile radio equipment and a base station, etc., are suppressed to a minimum. Further, the antenna of the base station is so configured dynamically as to maximize the qualities of the voices with each other both in a cell and among a plurality of adjacent cells thereto.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize an overlap of pilot signals and an inter-cell interference by setting the transmission power level of a base station according to reference pilot investigation data, base station initial traffic load information, and pilot coverage calculated from a 1st and a 2nd control factor. SOLUTION: The initial transmission Ec/Io of the base station is determined. New Ec/Io is calculated from the last Ec/Io data and cell traffic information. Variation in pilot coverage is determined by using the reference pilot investigation data, initial transmission Ec/Io of the base station 14, and the relation between two control factors. According to variation in cell transmission power or traffic load variation, the Ec/Io is calculated on the basis of the cell traffic load data. Optimum base station power setting calculation under traffic channel load conditions is repeated by using the control factors, etc., to obtain sets of optimized transmission power settings, and one optimum set is selected for each base station.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the call loss rate under a radio frequency(RF) environment that varies dynamically by selecting the specific value of an additional parameter according to a decided quality standard, so as to use 1st and additional handoff parameters in a soft handoff process. SOLUTION: A system 10 includes a mover (MS) 12 and base stations BS1-BS4. It is decided whether the parameter selection rule of a part 1 is started with respect to at least one of members included in an active set. When this rule is started to the member, this rule is started to all members of the active set. Thus, the specific value of an additional parameter is selected according to a decided quality standard, so that the 1st and additional handoff parameters are used in a soft handoff process.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a method for efficiently utilizing a spectrum resource belonging to a wireless communication system having a data channel by discontinuous data transmission technology. SOLUTION: In the discontinuous data transmission technology, a flag is transmitted through a control channel (or another communication channel) in a frame (f). The flag gives an aimed receiver the indication that a transmitter has a data frame to be transmitted to the aimed receiver in a certain future frame (f+q). When the flag indicates that the transmission of the data frame has been prepared in a certain execution format, the transmitter continuously transmits the data frame through a data channel (or another communication channel) in the frame (f+q). When the receiver does not display that the reception of the data frame from the transmitter has been prepared by another flag in another execution format, the data frame is not transmitted.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antenna system in which a traffic load is distributed uniformly between cells or between sectors of the cells by a method wherein, even when each cell is loaded heavily, a radio call can be established and processed and, when a traffic is overloaded, a soft hand-off operation to another base station inside an adjacent cell can be performed. SOLUTION: Antenna components for a cylindrical antenna array is adjusted, and a load is dynamically shared among the sectors of the cells or among the cells. The antenna component adjusts a beam arrangement or a beam direction on the basis of the monitored load. Consequently, the coverage region of the antenna array is changed so as to cope with a change in the density of the traffic. The antenna component is adjusted, and a change in the load inside each cell or between the cells is housed.

SOLUTION: Base stations 312, 314 or the like in the soft hand-off adjust a transmission power level in a 1st quantity when they take part in the soft hand-off and adjust a transmission power level in a 2nd quantity when they take no part in the soft hand-off. The adjustment is made by using a down-step size larger than an up-step size when the base stations 312, 314 or the like take part in the soft hand-off. Then the transmission power level is adjusted by a smaller up-step size and a higher down-step size when the base stations 312, 314 or the like receive the adjustment instruction.

SOLUTION: When a mobile unit is in an active state, a power control sub- channel is detached from a forward-only control channel (F-DCCH) and a forward basic channel (F-FCII) and backward link power is controlled by using a common power control channel (PCCH) instead. The power control channels on a forward link common power control channel (F-PCCH) control the power of a backward link enhanced access(R-EACH) or the power of a backward link common control channel (R-CCCH) with respect to a different mobile unit receiving the service of a base station transmitting F-PCCH.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the collision amount of access messages on a random access channel(RACH) in an opposite direction by a plurality of mobile stations which are about to obtain simultaneous accesses in the wireless communications system. SOLUTION: A probe message, shorter than an access message in place of the access message, is transmitted through a RACH. The period of use for the RACH by the transmission of the probe message is shorter than that by the transmission of the access message, and the chances for collision with other probe messages can be reduced. Then the access message is sent through a traffic channel or a control channel designated by a base station receiving the probe signal. Alternative method offer data burst being transmitted trough a designated traffic channel or control channel.
