    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more efficiently use a communication link between elements in a communication system. SOLUTION: During a silent period, a message containing comfortable noises is not transmitted but a message instructing the generating of comfortable noises to the element is transmitted so that the communication link between the elements in the communication system can be more efficiently used. The message instructing the generation of comfortable noises to the element is smaller than the message containing comfortable noises. As a result, the message for generating comfortable noises or command is transmitted rather than the message containing comfortable noises so that the bandwidth of the link between communication system elements can be more efficiently used.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a processing load of inter-carrier hand-off by a controller of a base station by selecting a radio frequency carrier for a subscriber on the basis of a load factor of a radio frequency related to each carrier and a prescribed threshold value to evaluate the load factor. SOLUTION: A sub-system 24 of a base station measures a 1st load level and a 2nd load level of a call transmission carrier covering a 1st geographical area and a transfer destination object carrier covering a 2nd graphical area. In the case of the 1st load level the 2nd load level and that a difference between the 1st and 2nd load levels is smaller than a prescribed threshold value, the call transmission carrier is selected, and when the difference between the load levels is smaller than a prescribed threshold value, the transfer destination object carrier is selected to permit hand-off between carriers.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend a cell size or an access range without expending high investment cost attending redesign by allowing a correction timing protocol to transmit a base station signal when between the start and the end of a retrieval window, that is, between a timing advance fetch time and a time corresponding to a bit limit of an ASIC correlation device, in addition to the timing advance fetch time. This can be attained through the use of the correction timing protocol.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily expand a cell size or an access range by allowing a base station to instruct handoff based on the absolute route delay information showing the present and past positions of a mobile telephone obtained by signals from the mobile telephone. SOLUTION: The base station 80 is provided with a macro cell 84 and a micro cell 82 having a radius R82 equal to or less than a distance corresponding to the ASIC correlation device bit limitation of a mobile telephone detector. The mobile telephones 86 and 88 measure the pilot signal strength of a first frequency band of the respective base stations and send it to the base station 80. When the signal strength of the first frequency band becomes equal to or less than a threshold, the base station 80 instructs handoff to a second frequency band. In the case that the mobile telephone 86 or 88 can not measure the frequency, the base station 80 detects mobile telephone signals, obtains the absolute route delay information from the arrival time, judges the moving direction of the mobile telephone and instructs when inter-frequency handoff is to be performed. The cell size or the access range is enlarged without re-designing the ASIC correlation device requiring the large amount of costs.

    Abstract: A method for determining the reverse link data Rate Limit for mobile stations active on the reverse link of a High Data Rate system is disclosed. In the ideal case, the Rate Limit is based on only the number of mobile stations located in a common sector that are actually active on the reverse link. Currently, the Rate Limit is determined from the total number of mobile stations in a common sector where the total includes mobiles that are transmitting and receiving. Thus, the current method includes mobile stations that are active on the forward link and may not be active on the reverse link. In this invention, a more optimum method of estimating the reverse link loading is obtained from calculations which includes only the mobile stations which are active on the reverse link. An estimate of the reverse link loading of the mobile stations in a common cell is obtained by adding together the data rates of the data sent from each mobile in a common sector during a common frame. This aggregate rate of data during the frame is filtered to minimize irregularities by using the moving average of an infinite impulse response filter and then normalized. The normalized result is a percentage of the maximum achievable aggregate reverse link rate. The final result is compared with a set of threshold values to obtain the maximum Rate Limit that is then set for each mobile station.
