Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an analog/digital converter that can reproduce an analog signal with a different frequency band in a non-superimposed part of the Nyquist bandwidth. SOLUTION: A receiver receives an analog signal with a radio frequency(RF) and converts the RF analog signal into a digital domain. Thus, the receiver needs no frequency conversion stage prior to the analog/digital conversion. For example, the receiver is provided with at least one antenna, that receives a radio frequency(RF) analog signal at a different frequency band. The analog RF signal is given to a single analog/digital converter and the analog/digital converter converts the analog RF signal with the different frequency band into a digital signal within the Nyquist bandwidth. Properly selecting a sampling speed of the analog/digital converter for the RF analog signal enables the analog/digital converter to generate a copy of the analog signal, having a different frequency band in a non-superimposed part of the Nyquist bandwidth.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an analog signal for transmission by converting a digital signal into analog format, providing an analog signal at a transmission fre quency using an analog signal image produced by a DA converter(DAC), and using the projected analog signal image. SOLUTION: A digital transmitter produces an analog signal at a desired frequency, using the analog signal image from the DAC. By setting or adjusting the conversion rate for the DAC or the digital signal frequency, the analog signal image produced from the DAC can be positioned in the desired frequency band. When the digital signal is converted into analog format, the DAC produces an analog signal image repeated at integral multiples of half the conversion rate, so that the analog signal image can be produced at an appropriate frequency band suitable for amplification and transmission.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple branch receiver architecture which utilizes possible bandwidth, flexibility and/or time and/or phase coherence capability, which are given by an A/D converter, in the conversion of analog signal into digital domain. SOLUTION: A receiver provides an analog signal received at a plurality of channel branches, and the frequency of the received analog signal is adjusted at least in one channel branch regardless of the relation to the relative position of the corresponding analog signal in the radio frequency(RF) spectrum. The analog signals in the channel branch are coupled, and the coupled analog signal is then converted to the digital domain. For example, the receiver includes at least one antenna for receiving the radio frequency(RF) analog signal. A channel branch arranger receives an analog RF signal and provides the RF analog signal to a plurality of channel branches.

Abstract: A receiver (10) provides received analog signals to a plurality of channel branches (16a-x), and on at least one of the channel branches, the frequency of the received analog signals is adjusted independent of the relative positions of the corresponding analog signals in the radio frequency (RF) spectrum. The analog signals on the channel branches are then combined, and the combined analog signals are converted into the digital domain. For example, the receiver comprises at least one antenna(s) (12) which receives radio frequency (RF) analog signals. A channel branch arranger receives the analog RF signals from the antenna(s) and provides the RF analog signals to a plurality of channel branches (16a-x). A frequency conversion arrangement comprising at least one frequency converter (20) on at least a respective one of the channel branches adjusts the frequency band of the analog RF signals on the respective channel branch independent of the relative positions of the corresponding analog signals in the RF spectrum of the different channel branches. The analog signals on the channel branches are combined (in 22), and single analog to digital converter (24) converts the combined analog signals into digital signals. In converting the composite analog signals into the digital domain, the frequency bands of the analog signals are positioned in a plurality of Nyquist zone channels in the digital domain. By properly selecting the frequency bands for the analog signals on the channel branches and the sampling rate for the A/D converter, the available bandwidth for the A/D converter can be more efficiently used, and/or time coherence and/or phase coherence can be provided.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for properly receiving communication signals havi ng relatively high dynamic ranges. The communication signals are transmitted by equipment of a communication system. A receiver comprising a plurality of filters each of which represents a frequency band is used to receive the communication signals. Each frequency band is assigned a specific dynamic range. A controller coupled to the receiver determines the amplitude of the received signals. The controller is also coupled to a call processing module. The controller also determines whether the received signa l is in the proper frequency band; that is whether the amplitude of the received signal is within the assigned dynamic range of the frequency band within which the signal is transmitted. When the signal is not in the proper frequency band, the controller in conjunction with the call processing module transmit a message to the equipment that transmitted the received signal instructing the equipment as to which frequency band to transmit the signal.

Abstract: A digital transmitter converts a digital signal into analog form with a digital to analog converter (DAC) and uses an analog signal image produced from the DAC to provide an analog signal at a transmission frequency and/or uses a projected analog signal image to produce analog signals for transmission. Rather than removin g analog signal images with a low pass filter at the output of the DAC and/or using analog signal images and analog mixers for frequency conversion, the digital transmitter uses the analog signal images from the DAC to produce the analog signals at the desired frequency/frequencies. By setting and/or adjusting the conversion rate for the DAC and/or the digital signal frequency/frequencies; the analog sign al images produced from the DAC can be positioned in the desired frequency band(s). Fo r example, the digital transmitter can position the digital signals within non - overlapping portions of a conversion bandwidth defined as one-half the conversion rate f or the DAC. When the digital signals are converted into analog form, the DAC produc es analog signal images periodically repeated at multiples of one-half the conversion rate such that analog signal images are produced at the appropriate frequency band(s) for amplification and transmission.
