    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce transmission power required for realizing reliable communication by providing a delay element and a second antenna for transmitting a delay input signal independently of the transmission of an input signal by means of a first antenna. SOLUTION: An amplifier 331 amplifies a delay signal outputted from a delay element 320 and the amplified signal is sent to an antenna 302. It is transmitted to a mobile station by radio. Namely, the delay signal is transmitted to the mobile station from the antenna 302 independently of prescribed time delay Δ after the signal is transmitted from an antenna 301. The modulation signal is also given to a delay element 32N and the delay element 32N delays the modulation signal by prescribed delay time NΔ. Then, the delayed signal is outputted. The amplifier 33N amplifies the delay signal from the delay element 32N and the amplified signal is sent to an antenna 30N and it is transmitted to the mobile station by radio.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for transferring data from a base station to a mobile terminal at a high-speed by using an additional broadband communication channel that assists communication served by a link in a reverse direction (from mobile station to base station) and in a forward direction (from base station to mobile station) employed by a cellular communication system or a PCS communication system. SOLUTION: A standard forward direction and reverse direction link is used for a control channel for data transfer on the additional forward broadband channel and for voice and low speed data traffic. Furthermore, communication executed on the narrow band forward link channel is transmitted on the additional broadband forward channel to eliminate need for the narrow band forward link channel. A mobile terminal has a conventional FDD(frequency division duplex) section 210 and an additional section 220. The additional section 220 receives data communicated through the broadband additional channel.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antenna system with high reliability that can enhance the performance of both up-link and down-link signals in a wireless communication system. SOLUTION: The antenna array system 10 has a 1st array 12 and a 2nd array 14 apart from the 1st array 12. The 1st array 12 is a transmission array for down-link transmission and the combination between the 1st array 12 and the 2nd array 14 forms a diversity configuration for up-link reception. The antenna system 10 has a proper number of antenna elements 31, 32 that are properly spatially arranged to maintain sufficient non-correlation in received signals (received by the 1st array 12 and the 2nd array 14) for coping with high-speed fading while avoiding the lobe definition problem. A signal to interference wave ratio (S/I) in the up-link and the down-link can all be enhanced by employing an adaptive radiation method in both the transmission and reception modes.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device that can properly receive a multiplex carrier signal with a relatively high dynamic range. SOLUTION: A receiver 632 consists of filters 606, 608, 610 and each filter corresponding to one frequency band is used to receive a communication signal. A controller 624 connected to the receiver decides amplitude of a received signal. The controller is also connected to a call processing module 628. Furthermore, the controller decides whether or not the received signal is within a proper frequency band. Then the controller decides whether or not the amplitude of the received signal is within a dynamic range assigned to a frequency band in the transmitted signal. When the signal is not within a proper frequency band, the controller connected to the call processing module transmits a message to a device that has transmitted the signal to instruct the device on the frequency band of the signal to be sent.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and inexpensively process operation measurement of a down link by performing the operation measurement of a signal transmitted from an objective base station by using a mobile terminal in the coverage area of another base station or the other station, and performing the operation measurement by the base station itself or instructing the operation measurement to the mobile terminal in each coverage area in response to a request from a main controller. SOLUTION: A measurement request generated by an objective base station or an MCU 202 indicates the operation measurement or measurement to be performed of a down link, and a base station which should receive the measurement request is identified, and a signal transmitted by the base station to be measured is identified. The measurement request can be inputted through a user interface from either the objective base station or the MCU 202 by an operator. The measurement request or part of this can also be automatically generated instead. When the objective base station generates the measurement request, the base station transmits the measurement request to the MCU 202.

    Abstract: In a mobile communication system, independent versions of a signal are transmitted over plural antennas. The antennas are either spatially separated or orthogonally polarized with respect to each other so that the independent versions of the signal are not subjected to correlated fading. Each independent version of the signal is transmitted from a respective antenna a fixed delay after transmission of a previous version of a signal from a different antenna. The fixed delay is at least one information bit of the signal. Received versions of the signal are equalized in an equalizer or RAKE architecture to provide a composite signal. The equalizer has respective sets of equalizer taps that are separated from adjacent sets of equalizer taps by the fixed delay. The RAKE architecture has respective sets of RAKE fingers that are separated from adjacent sets of RAKE fingers by the fixed delay.

    Abstract: In the method of making downlink operational measurements a measurement request from one of a main controller and a first base station is sent to at least a second base station. The measurement request requests the second base station to instruct mobile terminals in communication therewith to make operation measurements of at least one signal transmitted by the first base station. The second base station transmits a measurement instruction to the mobile terminals in communication therewith in response to the measurement request. The measurement instruction instructs the mobile terminals in communication with the second base station to make operational measurements of the signal transmitted from the first base station. Then the second base station receives results of the operational measurements from the mobile terminals in communication therewith Alternatively or in addition, the second base station makes the operational measurements.
