    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an analog/digital converter(ADC) that can reduce the conversion spurs (whiskers) related to the nonlinearity of an AD conversion function. SOLUTION: One embodiment of this invention indicates that an analog dither signal is fed to an analog input signal before a quantization process. The dither signal used for the integrated circuit of this invention has a variable amplitude controlled by a processor. Then the processor decides the amplitude of the dither signal to be added to the analog input signal by analyzing quantization digital indication of the input signal with the dither signal added thereto. The amplitude of the dither signal depends on a power level of one carrier or more in existence in the analog input signal. Adding the dither signal to the analog input signal can reduce the conversion spurs caused by the nonlinearity of the AD conversion function.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an analog signal for transmission by converting a digital signal into analog format, providing an analog signal at a transmission fre quency using an analog signal image produced by a DA converter(DAC), and using the projected analog signal image. SOLUTION: A digital transmitter produces an analog signal at a desired frequency, using the analog signal image from the DAC. By setting or adjusting the conversion rate for the DAC or the digital signal frequency, the analog signal image produced from the DAC can be positioned in the desired frequency band. When the digital signal is converted into analog format, the DAC produces an analog signal image repeated at integral multiples of half the conversion rate, so that the analog signal image can be produced at an appropriate frequency band suitable for amplification and transmission.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and inexpensive short wave filter which is adversely proportional to the desired frequency by filtering the electromagnetic signals propagated into a metallic casing through at least one frequency selection surface that is enclosed in the metallic casing. SOLUTION: A plurality of metallic repetitive patterns 24 are printed on the frequency selection surfaces 18 and 20 having thickness of 1-5 mil by means of a thin film technique. The surfaces 18 and 20 are buried into a solid dielectric material 22, and the material 22 and both surfaces 18 and 20 are completely surrounded by a metallic casing 12. Every pattern 24 has a shape that is resonated with the prescribed frequency and accordingly serves as a band elimination filter. When an electromagnetic signal 30 under propagation meets one of both surfaces 18 and 20, the energy belonging to one or more frequencies corresponding to the resonance frequency of one or more of patterns 24 are absorbed by the patterns 24 and then reflected by the Snell's refraction law. Thus, it seems that the surfaces 18 and 20 never exist against all frequencies except for the resonance frequency.

SOLUTION: An A/D converter system (12) generates the corrected output of an A/D converter by using at least one past signal sample. For at least one past sample, for example, the A/D converter system estimates a reference value or reference point like a reference amplitude. In response to an instruction that the A/D converter is saturated, the A/D converter system uses the reference value for predicting a next reference value like a next amplitude value, from which a corrected digital value is produced to replace the saturated sample.

SOLUTION: The high power selective signal attenuator is provided with a 1st analog/digital converter that converts an attenuating analog main signal and an output of the attenuator into a digital signal. A digital/analog converter converts a digital output from a 1st analog/digital converter into an analog signal, and a canceller receives a main signal and an analog output from a digital/analog converter. The canceller cancels an analog output from the digital/analog converter from the main signal to substantially eliminate the high power signal. A 2nd analog/digital converter receives an output of the canceller and produces a digital output. A control circuit receiving the digital output dynamically controls the attenuation of the attenuator to avoid the 2nd analog/digital converter from being saturated and to enhance an information throughput.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a band edge power cancellation system that reduces interference in a wireless communication system consisting of adjacent cells. SOLUTION: The band edge amplitude reduction system changes a filtering characteristic of a receiver on the basis of a signal adjacent to an edge of the operating band of the receiver and/or the amplitude of a signal which is not under the power control of the receiver. For example, the receiver measures power level over a bandwidth at the band edge of the operating band of the receiver. When the power of a signal adjacent to the operating band is too strong for the signal power within the operating band, an overload protection circuit changes the filtering characteristics of the receiver, to enhance the attenuation of the signal from the adjacent band. In certain embodiments, the overload protection circuit enables a filter, whose bandwidth is narrower, to switch the signal to attenuate the signal from the adjacent band at the edge of the operating band of the receiver, so as to prevent the interference with or the overload of the receiver by signals from the outside of the operating band and/or signals which are not under the control of the receiver.
