Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drastically reduce the number of OLSTs arranged on a tower by transmitting a steerably modulated laser beam to each on of plural subscribers in an OLST viewing area and receiving a signal from a customer by means of OLST when being steered by a specified subscriber. SOLUTION: A free space optical wide band access system is constituted of a center hub 300 and elements such as an 'antenna' arranged in the respective subscribers 21-25, 43 and 44, however, a free space optical link and a laser are used in place of microwave radio. Optical beam scanning technique is utilized in the hub in order to rapidly move the beam from a certain user to another and optical number of virtual point-to-point links are formed. The two different wave lengths of an infrared beam are used in the upstream direction and the downstream direction. The hub is arranged at a sufficiently high position to directly view the multiple latent subscriber. Furthermore, the various and different groups of the subscribers are allotted by plural sectors in a configuration.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain direct interconnection between a packet transport system and a setup channel type line interface unit in an intensive communication network and a pure packet type communication network. SOLUTION: An edge vehicle 140 is connected to an existing main wiring board 110. Respective subscriber lines 171, 173, 175 from the main wiring board 110 are terminated by an access shelf in the edge vehicle 140. An incoming twisted pair loop traffic is converted into an asynchronous packet traffic and given to a data subsystem 144 of the edge vehicle 140. The data subsystem 144 receives packet-processed data from the respective subscriber lines 171, 173, 175, and the data are transferred to a packet data transport network 150 or an end destination (final destination) in a conventional PSTN 160.

SOLUTION: A mutual connection system (100) of a back plane base is provided with a back plane (102) equipped with plural traces connected to slots for receiving circuit boards (104a-d). The back plane traces are constituted so that inter-point connections (106a-f) from a certain slot to all the other slots can be formed. A hub circuit (110) is arranged on each circuit pack, and the circuit packs are connected to the inter-point connections. The circuit packs are allowed to communicate via direct connection, inter-point connection or indirect connection by transmitting traffics via the inter-point connection and the hub circuit.

Abstract: An electronic system for networking, switching or computing includes a backplane-based interconnection system (100). The system includes a backplan e (102) with a plurality of traces coupled to slots for receiving circuit packs (104 a- d). The backplane traces are configured to form point-to-point connections (106a-f) from one slot of the backplane to every other slot of the backplane. Abstract: A communications for interconnecting standard twisted pair loop subscriber lines to a packet network without traditional local digital switches. The packet transport edge vehicle comprises a plurality of access shelves including means for converting synchronous traffic to asynchronous traffic within each line interface circuit. The converted traffic is delivered via high speed packet data links to a data subsystem where the packets are routed to an appropriate end destination either in a packet data network, such as the internet, or to the traditional public switched telephone network.
