SOLUTION: In the system, real time traffic from a mobile station (22) is processed in routing by Internet protocol core (20) of public terrestrial mobile telephone connected to either of media gateways (28, 32). The gateways (28, 32) provide services of public switching telephone network/integrated service digital network (26) and Internet protocol backbone (30), the services are provided without through GPRS gateway.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved technique for assuring the that a place of a mobile terminal be known while reducing unnecessary routing area update, when data communication is started after the mobile terminal is at a standby state. SOLUTION: This technique is for optimizing routing area update during handover between systems between GSM/GPRS and UMTS at a connected state of URA in UMTS. An operation mode, in which a radio link is held between the mobile terminal and a first radio access system after completion of data transmission at least in a first radio access system, is provide, and when the next data transmission is started, the routing area update is performed only when mobile object exists in a second radio access system routing area. At the start of the next data transmission and when the packet transmission is started by a network, a paging request is received by the first radio access system. A core net work shared routing area with core network is paged according to reception of the paging request by the first radio access system.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved technique for reducing unnecessary routing area update while guaranteeing that the location of a moving body terminal is known when the moving body terminal begins to communicate data after standby. SOLUTION: This technique optimizes routing area update in an inter-system hand-over between GSM/GPRS and UMTS in an URA connection state of UMTS. At least in a 1st radio access system, an operation mode wherein a radio link is maintained between the moving body terminal and the 1st radio access system after data transmission is completed is provided and when next data transmission is started, routing update is performed only when the moving body is in a 2nd radio access system routing area; when packet transmission is started by a network, the 1st radio access system receives a paging request and pages a core network common routing area in response to the reception of the paging request.
