    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently use the band width of a signal channel by examining some part of data received over at least a first communication channel. SOLUTION: When a time slot inverter(TSI) 54 receives a display, TSI 54 obtains information that the next set of bits is transmitted over some specific communication channel at the starting point of a frame. A receiver/transceiver (USART) 56 examines the set (or the part) of down link coding system channel bits with respect to the existence of a coding-system message. When USART 56 detects a flag character, USART 56 throws away the set of the down link coding system channel bits to prevent the set of the bits from passing through a microprocessor 58. Then, the microprocessor 58 examines an identifying name related to a ciphering system message stored in a memory for deciding whether the coding system message is directed to a base station or not.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated technology in order to automatically decide system configuration information and to assign an address on a common bus. SOLUTION: Each cell station 100 includes a hardware controller for making communication with a plurality of hardware components 130 on a common bus. When each cell station is energized or reset, each hardware component 130 reads an identification value denoting a physical significance from a back plane where the hardware components 130 are installed. This identification information introduces a bus address to uniquely identify each hardware component 130 on the common bus and denotes how each hardware component 130 and each component are arranged in a cell station. The hardware components enable the hardware controller to generate a map and decide the interconnection of the hardware components 130.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for automatically deciding system configuration information and assigning an address on a common bus. SOLUTION: Each cell station 100 includes a plurality of hardware components and a hardware controller 110, communicated on a common bus 115. An address space is logically divided into two ranges, that is, a 1st address range called a 'common access address' and a 2nd address range called an 'assignment address'. One address is reserved for a primary node to assign addresses, such as the hardware controller. Thus, each hardware component makes communication with the hardware controller having any of common access addresses to request a channel. When each hardware component receives an address assigned by the hardware controller, each hardware component makes communication, by using the assigned address after that. Collision which occurred among a plurality of the hardware components on the common access channels can be minimized through the assignment of a plurality of channels.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for dynamically determining a bus address that uniquely identifies a hardware component on a common bus. In an illustrative cell station implementation, each cell station includes a hardware controller that communicates on a common bus with a plurality of hardware components. The address space is logically divided into two ranges, namely, a first range of addresses referred to as the common access addresses, and a second range of addresses referred to as the assigned addresses. One address is reserved for the primary node that is responsible for assigning addresses, such as the hardware controller. Thus, each hardware component communicates with the hardware controller on one of the common access addresses to request a channel, and thereafter communicates on an assigned address, once assigned by the hardware controller. Collisions between multiple hardware components on the common access channels are minimized by assigning multiple channels.

    Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and a method for sharing a communicati on channel among two or more base stations connected to a base station controller via a common transmission line in a channelized format. The present invention allows each of the base stations t o receive data transmitted over a shared communication channel from the base station controller, to determin e whether the data transmitted from the base station controller is intended for that base station, and to i nsert its data into the communication channel without interfering with data transmitted by other bas e stations over the communication channel. In one embodiment, each of the base stations is confi gured to bridge onto the transmission facility such that messages being transmitted over a signaling channel may be received by all of the base stations. The signaling messages has associated identifiers for specifying particular base stations to which the messages are intended. In another embo diment, each of the base stations can insert its signaling message into the data stream over the signaling channel without interfering with signaling messages already in the data stream.
