    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the introduction of inexactness by improving channel prediction by inserting plural pilot signal blocks, which are to be inserted into a signal before transmission, while distributing and timely shifting them over a frame. SOLUTION: Concerning a digital signal through a channel encoder 20 and an interleaver 21, a decoded I/Q symbol is formed by a serial/parallel converter 22 and a switch 24 for diffusing a bit symbol rate to a chip rate controls the insertion of a periodical pilot symbol generator 25 and inserts a time division multiplexed symbol between data symbols. The block position of the pilot symbol in respect to a user is calculated while using an algorithm. When a new user enters the system or when a busy user leaves the system, pilot symbols are arranged again. The respective frames are arranged while being timely shifted and are not be overlapped but have continuous pilot symbols.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an equalizer which has the effect of propagation reduced for the estimation of the channel impulse response of a transmit signal. SOLUTION: The channel impulse response of a signal transmitted over a channel of a communication system is estimated. Previous information regarding a transmit signal is obtained first. Then an estimated value of channel impulse response which minimizes an expected value of the distance between the transmit signal and a reconstituted signal is selected by using the transmit signal and previous information. For example, the minimized distance expected value is a cost function and represented, specially, as E ||r-Bh||2|r}. Here, (r) is a received signal, (h) is a vector representing the channel, and B is a matrix including transmission bits as components. Further, the previous information is obtained through data estimation which is performed for the transmit signal and obtained, specially, by a channel decoder 14. Further, an estimated value by, for example, channel observation is selected.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the bit error rate of the system by using a transmitter where a mapper connects in series with an encoder and a bit inteleaver and a receiver where a demapper connects to a bit de-interleaver and a decoder. SOLUTION: A binary random signal that is convolution-coded is fed to a random bit interleaver that interleaves a bit signal in a transmitter. An encrypted bit stream passing through the interleaver is given to a demultiplexer that conducts serial/parallel conversion, where the stream is demultiplexed into N-sets of parallel bit streams. A mapper conducts N-bit-N-bit mapping. The bit streams 1,...N after mapping receive spread processing by binary antipodal channel processing codes (code words 1,..., N) whose length is Nc chip. N-sets of the channel processing codes are usually orthogonal to each other. A receiver is provided with a demapper, which conducts repetitive demapping and decoding after de-spreading.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove inter-cell interference, and to prevent decrease of spectrum efficiency by transmitting the same communication information in the same synchronizing state as the same sub-carrier group by base stations for the cluster of two or more cells, transmitting a multiple access preamble by each frame, and identifying the transmitting base station. SOLUTION: Base stations BS1, BS2, and BS3 handle each cell 1, 2, and 3 classified into one cluster. The cluster can surround all cells in a system or only a small group. All base stations in the cluster use the same sub-carrier group for a common communication channel, and transmit the same signal synchronizing with the sub-carriers along the cluster of the base stations BS1-BS3. A mobile station to which the communication information is transmitted is indicated by frame addressing. A preamble confirms the base station which transmits the communication information to the mobile station, and the level of the signal intensity.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soft hand-over system to enhance the performance of a multiple subcarrier communication system. SOLUTION: This soft hand-over system uses a multiple subcarrier that simultaneously sends multiple subcarrier signals between base stations 16a-16c which acts as an up-link and/or down-link and a mobile unit 22. The transmission of the multiple subcarriers is synchronized so that a delay difference between the multiple subcarriers from different base stations reaching the mobile unit 22 is kept within a protection time. In an embodiment, subcarriers of a same set are used between the mobile unit 22 and base stations of different cells, while subcarriers of a different set are used between the mobile unit 22 and base stations of different cells in other embodiment. When the subcarriers of the same set are used, the mobile unit 22 receives down-link signals of the same data contents from different base stations. The mobile unit 22 handles the down-link signal merely as a multiple path configuration component so that the diversity gain is increased. In the case of a multiple subcarrier CDMA system, the system can use subcarriers of the same set.

In this case, pilot reconstitution circuits 606 and 607 are reconstituting pilot signals through predicted attenuation, phase and path delay are respectively added to the fingers 603 and 604, the pilot signal from the path 0 is reconstituted, subtracted from the signal of path 1 by an adder 609 and removed. Similarly, the pilot signal reconstituted from the path 1 is subtracted from the signal of path 0 by an adder circuit 608 and removed and afterwards, the signals are respectively exactly demodulated by fingers 0 and 1 and bit-determined or processed by a viterbi decoder 605.

    Abstract: The invention comprises a method and apparatus for iteratively decoding a multilevel modulated signal in which the soft output information of a channel decoder is fed back and utilized by a tailored soft demapping device in order to improve the decoding result by further iterative decoding steps. The receiver includes a demapper for generating a demapped signal, bit deinterleaver for generating a demapped and deinterleaved signal and a decoder for generating soft reliability values representative of the decoded signal. These soft reliability values are then bit interleaved and fed back to the demapper, as a priori knowledge, for use in fiuther iterations of the decoding process.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a channel decoder for data encoded by serially concatenated outer and inner codes in which the outer code is a rate 1:2 repetition code operative to encode a data bit b n as two identical coded bi ts bcoded,n 0,bcoded,n 1, and in which the coded bits are interleaved. The decoder comprises a soft input soft output (SISO) inner decoder for which the input and output information are log likelihood ratios, input information being the lo g likelihood ratios of the encoded data and outer extrinsic information. Means are provided for subtracting feedback outer extrinsic information from the inner decoder information to produce inner extrinsic information. Means are also provided for swapping the log likelihood ration L n0,L n1, in the inner extrinsic information, corresponding to one information bit b n to produce the feed ba ck extrinsic information. The coder is operative iteratively with outer extrins ic information produced by previous iterations. The pairs, corresponding to one data bit b n, of log likelihood ratios L n0,L n1, of the inner extrinsic information are summed, and a hard decision is based or the summed log likelihood ratios. Th e arrangement is especially simple compared with other decoders proposed in th e prior art, especially when it is realised that the means for swapping can perform the swap without separate steps of deinterleaving and interleaving.
