Abstract: Closed sockets are formed in the lower surface of a vehicle floor cover, such as a mat or tray. Each socket is adapted to receive a vehicle floor cover retention device which stands up from the floor of the vehicle foot well in which the floor cover is being installed. The sidewall of the body of each device acts as a physical stop to the sidewall of a respective socket, preventing or mitigating movement of the floor cover within the foot well. The top surface of the device may have a first fastener which is adapted to engage a second fastener on the ceiling of the socket. The device may be an adapter which is fastened to preexisting OEM mat retention structure. Embodiments of the adapter include one assembled from two pieces around an OEM retention post with an enlarged head.

Abstract: Cut-to-fit floor mats for use in the front row of different vehicles includes a driver's side floor mat and a passenger's side floor mat, each with a plurality of peripheral cells separated from each other and from a central area of the mat body by indented trim lines. The passenger's side mat is not a mirror image of the driver's side mat but differs therefrom in the shape of its exterior margin and the number, length, positioning and shape of the trim lines. The driver's side mat has cells which can be selectively trimmed away to accommodate a gas pedal, deadpedal, transmission tunnel indentation and fuel filler door / trunk release levers. The passenger's side mat has arcuate trim lines and cells adapted to fit a transmission tunnel bulge and a right front wheel well which often delimit the passenger's side foot well.

Abstract: A device for fastening a vehicle floor cover to carpeting in a vehicle foot well includes a body with a first and second face. Projections or spikes extend from the first face and, in one embodiment, each have vertical faces in alignment with mold ejector bars or sleeves. A fastener, sized to be received into a grommet, extends from the second face. A retention grommet has a bottom grommet and a top grommet. A floor cover retention flange extends radially outwardly from an outer sidewall of the bottom grommet. The outer sidewall extends upwardly from the retention flange to a hinge plane of the bottom grommet. Plural fingers are disposed around the bottom grommet axis so as to be angularly spaced from each other and an inner surface of the outer sidewall. An upper end of each finger is joined to the outer sidewall at the hinge plane. Near a free, downwardly displaced end of each finger, a retention bead is formed to have an upwardly and radially outwardly inclined surface. This surface engages a retention post of any of several vehicle foot well affixation devices, one of which is adapted to be affixed to a carpeted surface and another of which is adapted to be affixed to a smooth surface.
