PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an alkylaryl carbamate which can industrially obtain the alkylaryl carbamate with good workability and productivity and an isocyanate which is obtained with the use of the alkylaryl carbamate.SOLUTION: The alkylaryl carbamate is produced by reacting an aromatic amine with an alkylaryl carbonate in the presence of a carboxylic acid and the isocyanate is produced by thermally decomposing the obtained alkylaryl carbamate. When the alkylaryl carbamate is produced by this method, without mixing a strongly toxic metal compound, furthermore without requiring complicated post-treatment steps, the alkylaryl carbamate can be industrially produced with good workability and productivity. Further, when the isocyanate is produced by this method, the polyisocyanate which is industrially used as a raw material of polyurethanes can be simply and efficiently produced.
