    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound, excellent in weather and heat resistances, etc., and capable of providing an unsaturated α-olefin-polyene copolymer having a high vulcanization rate by reacting a vinylnorbornene compound with a conjugated diene compound in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION: A vinylnorbornene compound of formula I (R and R are each H or a 1-5C alkyl) (preferably 5-vinylnorbornene, etc.) is reacted with a conjugated diene compound of formula II (R and R are each H or a 1-5C alkyl; R is H or a 1-4C alkyl, with the proviso that R and R are not simultaneously H) (e.g. isoprene) in the presence of a catalyst to afford the objective compound of formula III. Furthermore, a catalyst comprising a transition metallic complex in which an organic ligand is coordinated with Co chloride and triethylaluminum is preferred as the catalyst. 9146/28}1,2-Bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane]cobalt (II) chloride, etc., are preferred as the transition metallic complex. The reaction is preferably carried out at 70-150 deg.C under 10-70kg/cm ethylene pressure.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a herbicidal composition having excellent herbicidal activity against various weeds in a small amount of the chemical and high safety with hardly any phytotoxicity to useful crops. CONSTITUTION:This herbicidal composition comprises (A) a urea compound of formula I [Ar is formula II (R to R are H, lower alkyl or lower alkoxyl; R is further OH, with the proviso that R and R or R and R may be linked or, together with C to which they are bound, may form an alkylene chain forming a 4- to a 6-membered ring or R and R may be linked to denote ethylendioxy; R and R may be linked to denote dichloromethylene); A is CX (X is H, Cl, NO2 or CF3); B is H, methyl or methoxy] and (B) 3,5-dibromo-4- hydroxybenzonitrile of formula III or its salt or ester as active ingredients. Furthermore, a spreading agent containing a nonionic or an anionic surfactant can be added to provide the herbicidal composition better in herbicidal effects and stability.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To control weeds without substantially chemically injuring crops by applying an aqueous dispersion or aqueous emulsion to injurious weeds, the aqueous dispersion or aqueous emulsion being prepared by adding an oil, a surfactant, a solvent, etc., to a water-diluted solution of a herbicide composition containing a specific urea derivative compound. CONSTITUTION:When applies, a herbicide composition containing a compound of formula I [Ar is group of formula II (R , R are H, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, or both may be combined to each other to form a ring), etc.; A is N or -CX=(X is H, Cl, NO2 or CF2); R is H, CH3 or OCH3] is deluted with water, and the diluted solution is mixed with an oil (e.g. a vegetable oil, animal oil or paraffic oil), a surfactant (nonionic, cationic, anionic or amphoteric), a solvent (e.g. methanol, acetone or toluene) to prepare an aqueous dispersion or aqueous emulsion, which is applied to injurious weeds. The treatment reduces the chemical injury of cross caused by the compound of formula I and reinforces the herbicidal activity thereof.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject new compound capable of providing an unsaturated ethylenic copolymer rubber, excellent in weather, heat and ozone resistances and having a high vulcanization rate when copolymerized with an α-olefin. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I (R is H or a 1-3C alkyl; R and R are each a 1-3C alkyl), e.g. 5-[1'-(1''-methyl-1''-propenyl)]-4'- methyl-3'-pentenyl]-2-norbornene. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by reacting a compound represented by formula II with ethylene in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metallic compound and an organoaluminum compound, providing a compound represented by formula III and then carrying out the Diels-Alder reaction of the resultant compound represented by formula III with cyclopentadiene.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound copolymerizable with an α-olefin to give an unsaturated ethylenic copolymer having excellent weather resistance and heat-resistance and high vulcanization rate by reacting ethylene with a specific conjugated diene compound. SOLUTION: The objective compound of the formula III is produced by reacting ethylene with a conjugated diene of the formula I [(f) is 1-5; R and R are each H or a 1-5C alkyl; R is H, an alkenyl of the formula II (R to R are each H or a 1-5C alkyl; (n) is 1-5; R to R are not H at the same time), etc.; R to R are not H at the same time] in the presence of a transition metal compound (preferably rhodium chloride) preferably at 40-200 deg.C under an ethylene pressure of 5-100kg/cm . The reaction is usually performed preferably in the presence of a 1-5C alcohol. A preferable example of the compound of the formula I is 7-methyl-3-methylene-1,6-octadiene and, in this case, 4-ethylidene-8- methyl-1,7-nonadiene is obtained as the objective compound.
