    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to uniformly and quantitatively take out packings in a contact tank without causing breakdown, bias flow, and falling by raking off the repose angle part of powder formed throughout the depthwise direction of the bottom of the contact tank. CONSTITUTION:In a treatment container 1, plural contact tanks 3 divided by two perforated plates facing each other in parallel at given intervals are provided. The bottom of the contact tanks 3 is designed to enable packed material to be treated to form the angle of repose throughout the depthwise direction. And, the material to be treated, formed at a repose angle, is raked off by moving reciprocally a scraper 4 provided to the bottom plate of the contact tanks 3. Shortly thereafter, the treated material falls down by gravity to form a repose angle. The treated material so raked is sent through a granule feeder 6 to a granule regenerator 7 for regeneration.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the precipitation, deposition, and built-up of resinous materials in a distillation column after separation of an inert gas, by condensing the reaction product gas at a specific temperature, in the preparation of methylated phenol by bringing methanol into contact with phenol in vapor phase. CONSTITUTION:Methanol and phenol are subjected to vapor phase contact reaction in the presence of a metallic oxide catalyst at 350-550 deg.C to give a gas containing methylated phenol, which is condensed at 30-120 deg.C, preferably at 40-90 deg.C, at a pressure not higher than 2.7kg/cm G. Aldehydes, formic acid, etc. are transferred into the vapor phase, and the condensate is separated and purified by distillation, concentration, crystallization, etc. to give methylated phenol.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture reducing metallic powder as high performance magnetic recording powder in mass production in an industrical scale by reducing fine particles of iron compound powder with reducing gas containing hydrogen as reducing component. CONSTITUTION:alpha-Fe2O3, gamma-Fe2O3, and iron formate powder or the like are reduced in contact with reducing gas such as pure hydrogen gas or the like under reducing conditions of 0.05-50kg/cm of pressure, 150-500 deg.C, preferably 200- 450 deg.C of temperature. In this case the reducing gas is flowed at an air tower linear speed of 1-20cm/sec., and the stock material is stirred. Thus, the reducing gas is dispersibly retained in the powder to form a mixture of uniform powder and reducing gas of viscosity much lower than the sole powder over the entire reaction period. The magnetic properties of the obtained reduced metallic iron is excellent with less irregular quality.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the uniformity in the grain size distribution of the goethite by supplying an aq. ferrous salt soln. and an aq. alkaline soln. to the reactor provided with an agitating means, a liq. flow control cylinder and a gas introducing means and supplying an oxidizing gas while agitating the solns. to oxide CONSTITUTION:N2 is supplied into the reactor from a gas sparger 5 to replace the internal atmosphere with N2. An aq. alkaline soln. of NaOH, etc., is then supplied from an alkali hydroxide supply port 7, and an aq. soln. of a ferrous salt such as FeSO4 is added from a supply port 6, the solns. are agitated, and air is simultaneously introduced from the gas sparger 5. The liq. reactant is kept at 40 deg.C and oxidized at the rate of 5%/min until when initial 30% oxidation is completed. The amt. of air to be introduced is then decreased, and the oxidation is allowed to proceed at the rate of 3%/min to convert the hydroxide to goethite. After oxidation is finished, the mixture is agitated for about one hour in the atmosphere, and the liq. reactant is discharged from a discharge port 8 and filtered. The precipitate is washed with water and then dried to obtain the fine grains having uniform mol.wt. distribution and having >=100m /g specific surface.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve uniformity in parties size distribution by feeding an aq. ferrous salt soln. and an aq. alkali soln. into a specified reactor and carrying out oxidation with a fed oxidizing gas while emulsifying and dispersing the solns. CONSTITUTION:A reactor fitted with a T.K. homomixer as an emulsifying and dispersing means and a tubular gas sparger as a gas introducing means is used. N2 is substd. for the air in the reactor by feeding N2 from the gas sparger 4 and an aq. soln. of an alkali hydroxide such as NaOH and an aq. soln. of a ferrous salt such as FeSO4 are fed from inlets 6, 5, respectively. The solns. are stirred and simultaneously air is introduced from the gas sparger 4. The rate of oxidation is regulated to 5%/min until when 30% oxidation is attained. The amt. of air introduced is then reduced and oxidation reaction is allowed to proceed at 3%/min to convert formed iron hydroxide into acicular iron oxyhydroxide (goethite). After the end of the reaction, the liq. reaction product is stirred in the air for about 1 hr, drawn out of a discharge hole 7, filtered, washed and dried to obtain fine particles having a uniform particle size distribution and >=100m /g specific surface area.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To vaporize acidic mist in dry denitration of exhaust gas contg. the acidic mist so as to prevent the apparatus material from being corroded with the acidic mist, by mixing a portion of the gas treated at high temp. with the exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas contg. NOx passing through a flue 1, a scrubber 2 includes acidic mist , and is united with a portion of the exhaust gas treated at high temp. (about 2% of the treated exhaust gas) led through a pipe 7 so that the acidic mist disappears. It is then delivered through a heat exhanger 3 etc. to a catalytic reactor 6, where it is denitracted with NH3 5. A portion of the high-temp.-treated gas is used as the above-described circulation gas, large portion being released to the air through a heat exchanger 3. This apparatus, constituted by attaching the pipe line 7 to the conventional equipment, causes mist of fine particles to disappear, preventing corrosion of the denitration apparatus, and increasing its service life.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain fine goethite having a uniform distribution of particle size by supplying a solution of ferrous salt and alkali aq. solution to a gas-liquid mixing reaction chamber of bubble tower type, and alternately introducing oxidative gas for oxidation and nonoxidative gas for mixing into the tower to effect oxidation reaction. CONSTITUTION:A solution of ferrous salt (e.g. aq. solution of ferrous sulfate) and alkali aq. solution (e.g. aq. solution of sodium hydroxide) are supplied through a feeder 3 for neutralization reaction into a gas-liquid mixing reaction chamber 10 of cylindrical shape equiped with air feeder 1 and perforated plate 2 in the lower part of the tower. Then by switching a switch valve 4, oxidative gas (e.g. air) for oxidation from a tube 5 and nonoxidative gas (e.g. nitrogen) for mixing from a tube 6 are alternately introduced to the tower to effect oxidation reaction. The obtd. goethite has >=m /g specific surface area which satisfies the performance as the magnetic recording material for high definition television.
