Abstract: An improved process for producing a propylene-ethylene block copolymer uses a stereo-specific catalyst(Ziegler-Natta Cat.). Multi- step polymerization of the propyrene-ethylene block copolymer is performed by the use of a connected reactor. In this polymerization, the solvent of one of the connected reactors is propyrene without using an inert solvent, and the reaction rates of ethylene/propyrene are different from each other. The title material has a high degree of strength.

Abstract: Polypropylene of uniform quality is produced at a desired, constant production rate on a continuous basis in the presence of a catalyst system composed of a transition metal catalyst and an organoaluminum compound. The polypropylene production rate is calculated based on the quantity of heat removed per unit time from a reaction tank (1) operated at a constant temperature, and is controlled by varying the amount of the organoaluminum compound to be charged, when the weight ratio of the organoaluminum compound to the transition metal catalyst both retained in the reaction tank is not greater than a preset value. The production rate of polypropylene may also be controlled by varying the amount of the transition metal catalyst to be charged, when the weight ratio of the organoaluminum compound to the transition metal catalyst both retained in the reaction tank is greater than a preset value.

Abstract: : A poly-.alpha.-olefin of novel structure which is an addition polymer of an .alpha.-olefin having 4 carbon atoms or more, wherein (a) by the analysis of the peaks attributable to the side chain methylene groups directly bonded to the main chain in the 13C-NMR spectrum produced by the measurement in 1,2,4-trichloro-benzene, (i) a novel main peak not attributable to the isotactic structure thereof is positioned on the side of higher magnetic field than is the peak attributable to the isotactic structure, and (ii) the intensity of said main peak is 0.3 or more relative to the sum of the intensities of the total peaks attributable to the side chain methylene groups directly bonded to the main chain, and (b) the molecular weight measured by gel permeation chromatography and calculated as polypropylene is not less than 1,000.
