    Abstract: A polyimide resin composition for molding, which comprises a polyimide resin and an aromatic bisimide compound and has a melt flowability and an excellent processability in addition to the heat resistance inherent in polyamide; a carbon fiber-reinforced polyimide resin composition which comprises a polyimide resin and carbon fibers coated with an aromatic bisimide compound and has excellent mechanical strengths; and novel bisimide compounds represented by general formula (I), which are very useful as the aromatic bisimide compounds in the above resin compositions, wherein X represents a direct bond, C1 to C10 divalent hydrocarbyl, hexafluoroisopropylidene, carbonyl, thio or sulfonyl; Y1 to Y4 represent each independently hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, chlorine or bromine; and R represents a divalent group selected from the group consisting of monocyclic aromatic groups, fused polycyclic aromatic groups, and nonfused polycyclic aromatic groups wherein aromatic groups are linked together directly or through cross-linking member(s).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composition, capable of remarkably improving the melt fluidity of a resin without impairing characteristics of a polyimide and excellent in molding processability by blending a polyimide resin having a specific structure with an aromatic polyimide oligomer. CONSTITUTION:The composition is obtained by blending (A) 100 pts.wt. polyimide resin composed of a unit expressed by formula I (X is 1-10C bivalent hydrocarbon, thio, etc.; Y1 to Y4 are H, lower alkyl, etc.; R is >=2C tetravalent group such as aliphatic or aromatic group) with (B) 0.5-100 pts.wt. aromatic polyimide oligomer. The component (A) is preferably obtained by reacting an ether diamine expressed by formula II such as bis[4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]methane with a tetracarboxylic dianhydride expressed by formula III such as pyromellitic dianhydride and cyclodehydrating the resultant polyamic acid. An aromatic polyimide oligomer composed of a unit expressed by formula I is preferably used as the component (B).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyimide excellent in stability of high-temperature molding and melt and flow by reacting a specified diamine with a specified tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride in a specified ratio in the presence of a specified amount of a dicarboxylic acid anhydride and imidizing the obtained amic acid. CONSTITUTION:1mol of a diamine (A) of formula I wherein X is a direct bond, a 1-10C bivalent hydrocarbon group, hexafluorinated isopropylidene or the like; and Y1 to Y4 are each H, lower alkyl or the like is reacted with 0.5-0.9mol of a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride (B) of formula II wherein R is a 2C or higher aliphatic group, a cycloaliphatic group, a monocyclic aromatic group or the like in the presence of 0.2-4mol of a dicarboxylic acid anhydride (C) of formula III wherein Z is a divalent group such as a monocyclic aromatic group or a condensed polycyclic aromatic group under such conditions that the equivalent ratio of the total of components B and C to component A is 1-2.9. The obtained reaction product is thermally or chemically imidized to obtain a polyimide having a basic skeleton consisting of repeating units of formula IV.

CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. aromatic polycarbonate resin [e.g. a polymer comprising repeating units of formula I (wherein X is a direct bond, a 1-10 C bivalent hydrocarbon group, carbonyl, sulfonyl or the like; Y1 to Y4 are each H, lower alkyl or the like)] is mixed with above 0.5 to below 100 pts.wt. aromatic bisimide compounds of formula II (wherein X is as defined above; N is para, ortho or meta to X; and R is a bivalent group selected from among a monocyclic aromatic group, a condensed polycyclic aromatic group and a noncondensed polycyclic aromatic group composed of aromatic groups bonded directly or through bridging members) and/or formula III (wherein X, Y1 to Y4 and R are as defined above). A resin composition having a melt viscosity lower than that of the polycarbonate and improved in moldability can be obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a gland packing with good heat resistance, sealing property and workability without using aromatic polyimide by braiding a blended yarn containing rock wool and polyimide fibers made of polyimide resin with a specific composition at specific ratios respectively. CONSTITUTION:A gland packing suitable for sealing the rotary shaft of a pump and a valve is braided with a blended yarn containing rock wool 80-20wt.% and polyimide fibers 20-80wt.%. The polyimide fibers are made of polyimide resin expressed by the repetition unit of the formula I, where R represents a quadrivalent group selected from an alphatic group with the carbon number 2 or above, a cyclic alphatic group, a monocyclic aromatic group, a condensation polycyclic aromatic group and a non-condensation polycyclic aromatic group with aromatic groups connected directly or via a cross linking member.
