    Abstract: A communication system has an information signal having a plurality of data streams (72, 77, 92). The data streams are simultaneously modulated on a multi-level symbol transmission (110). The data streams may have either independent or dependent signalling protocols. A transmitting means (105) generates the information in one of several embodiments. A first receiver (200) receives the information signal and processes only a first data stream for messages. A second receiver (300) receives the information signal and processes only the second data stream for messages. A third receiver (400) is capable of selectively receiving and processing a plurality of data streams. The third receiver is shown in several embodiments for selecting the data streams.

    Abstract: An improved DC to DC converter that is capable of operating in both a continuous mode for providing one or more higher levels of output current, and an intermittent mode in order to provide improved efficiency at one or more extremely low output current levels. The DC to DC converter (16) includes a power input for receiving power at a predetermined input voltage. The converter (16) is current-controlled to provide output power at a predetermined output voltage and several output current levels. The converter is further selectively controlled for either continuous or intermittent mode of operation. The continuous mode provides the higher output current levels and the intermittent mode provides the lowest output current level.

    Abstract: A paging system has a signal for transmitting a variable amount of messages to paging receivers. The signal has a synchronization signal (100), an address field (104), an information and a boundary signal indicative of the boundary between the address field and the information field. Each message has an address which is included within the address field and may have message information which is included in the information field. The information field includes two portions, a first portion (106) having a plurality of packets for holding a predetermined amount of information and a second portion (108) for holding a variable amount of information. If the message information is greater than the predetermined amount, it is stored in the second portion of information field and a vector signal indicating the location of the message information is stored in the first information field.
