Abstract:
A communication device (10) comprises an input for receiving a first audio signal (12) and an input (36) for receiving a second audio signal. The communication device (10) also includes a circular buffer (34) for storing the output digital audio signal (12) and for producing an output audio signal (20). The communication device (10) determines whether at least a portion of the output audio signal (20) is present in the second audio signal. If such a portion is present, the communication device (10) subtracts the portion of the output audio signal (20) from the second audio signal, to produce a third audio signal (26). A threshold detector, responsive to the third audio signal, produces a first control signal, when the level of the third audio signal increases to at least a first predetermined level, and a second control signal, when the level of the third audio signal decreases to a value lower than a second predetermined level, where the second predetermined level is lower than the first predetermined level. Finally, a buffer control (22) causes the buffer (34) to suspend production of the output audio signal in response to the first control signal, and causes the buffer (34) to resume production of the audio signal (12), in response to the second control signal.
Abstract:
Abstract:

Abstract:
An electronic system and a method substantially eliminates any delays caused by buffering of a signal containing speech. The electronic system comprises a receiver for receiving signals (16), a buffer (26), coupled to the receiver, a buffer controller (28) coupled to the buffer, and an audio section (32) for presenting signals received to a listener. The method comprises the following steps. The receiver receives an input signal representing speech, and produces an output signal representing the input signal after a delay intentionally introduced in the system. The delay corresponds to the length of the buffer. The buffer stores the input signal in the buffer at an input rate, and produces the output signal at an output rate. The buffer controller determines whether the delay or buffer length is greater than a predetermined threshold, and analyzes at least a portion of the input signal stored in the buffer to determine which parts of the input signal may be removed without substantial deterioration of the signal quality according to at least one predetermined criterion, when the buffer length is greater than a predetermined length. The buffer controller then deletes at least some of the parts of the input signal stored in the buffer that comply with the predetermined criterion.
Abstract:
Disclose is a synchronized wireless communication network (100) operating in single frequency network mode comprising a first base station (502) broadcasting, on a first channel, broadcast data and a common sequence (508) that is generated from a first channel identifier, and wherein the first base station transmits data on a common control channel. A second base station (510), adjacent to the first base station and synchronized with the first base station, the second base station simultaneously broadcasting on the first channel the broadcast data and the common sequence, and wherein the second base station transmits data on a common control channel.

Abstract:
In a communication system (100) where a remote unit is given a time offset for a base station (102) and hands off to the base station (102) if the remote unit (113) can acquire the base station within a time window surrounding the time offset, a remote unit (113) utilizes the time offset of each base station (supplied by a serving base station (101) via downlink communication signal (116)) and searches for neighboring base stations within the time window surrounding its PN offset. The time window surrounding an individual base station's PN offset is allowed to vary depending upon whether the communication system (100) is time synchronized. In particular, a base station (101) supplies the remote unit (113) with an indication that the communication system (100) is operating in a synchronized or an unsynchronized mode, and the remote unit (113) varies the time window (search window) accordingly.
