Abstract:
In a communication system a method for selecting a set of preferences for use during transmission of information to a particular destination anticipates selecting a list of one or more destinations (502), each destination having a key and a set of preferences, each preference further having a value. A historical database is indexed via (504 and 508) the key to retrieve a set of database entries, each entry having a set of preferences, each preference further having a value. The retrieved database entries are filtered (506 and 512) in order to identify those entries exhibiting a predefined set of criteria. After filtering (518), the preference values (514 and 516) within the identified database entries are applied during transmission and subsequent processing of the information (520).
Abstract:
A micro fuel cell and method of forming such on a substrate (12) is provided that derive power from a three dimensional fuel/oxidant interchange. The fuel cell includes a plurality of porous pedestals (17) formed on the substrate (12), each porous pedestal (17) including an anode (68), a cathode (70) surrounding the anode (68); and an electrolyte (60) filling a cavity between the anode (68) and the cathode (70). The cathode (70) is accessible to ambient air, and the anode (68) has a passageway (30) thereto for receiving a fuel. The anode (68) and cathode (70) may be formed by etching a cavity for the electrolyte (60) or by forming trenches (58, 66) to form each anode (68) and cathode (70), wherein each trench (66) between an anode and cathode is filled with electrolyte.

A method is employed in a point-and-address communication system using a two-way communication device (100) having directional probe means (106) to establish a communication link. The method includes the step of transmitting (706), via the probe means (106), a request signal (303, 405, 504, 605) directionally toward a receiving device (200). The request signal (303, 405, 504, 605) is then received (801) by the receiving device (200), which device is in view of the user of the communication device (100). The receiving device (200) then initiates a process (808, 809) which results, either directly or indirectly, in transmission of the requested target information (304, 404) to the communication device (100). The communication device (100) then receives the requested information (304, 404) corresponding to the receiving device (200) that was seen by the user of the communication device (100).
Abstract:
A method is provided for making a MEMS structure (69). In accordance with the method, a CMOS substrate (51) is provided which has interconnect metal (53) deposited thereon. A MEMS structure is created on the substrate through the plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD) of a material selected from the group consisting of silicon and silicon-germanium alloys. The low deposition temperatures attendant to the use of PACVD allow these materials to be used for MEMS fabrication at the back end of an integrated CMOS process.

Abstract:
An improved semiconductor device (10) including an amorphous carbon layer (14) for improved adhesion of photoresist and method of fabrication. The device includes a substrate (12) having a surface (13), a carbon layer (14), formed on the surface of the substrate, and a resist layer (16) formed on a surface of the carbon layer. The device is formed by providing a substrate having a surface, depositing a carbon layer on the surface of the substrate using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) or sputtering, and forming a resist layer on a surface of the carbon layer.
Abstract:
A method for fabricating a field emission display (100) includes the steps of providing a cathode plate (102), providing an anode plate (104), providing a spacer substrate (160) made from a bulk spacer material (109), cutting the spacer substrate (160) to define a spacer (108) having a surface (107), passivating the surface (107) of the spacer (108) using the bulk spacer material (109) to form a passivation layer, and disposing the spacer (108) between the cathode plate (102) and the anode plate (104). A field emission display (100) which includes a cathode plate (102) having a plurality of electron emitters (124), an anode plate (104) opposing the cathode plate (102), and a spacer (108) extending between the cathode plate (102) and anode plate (104). The spacer (108) has a passivation layer made from bulk spacer material (109).
