Abstract: PURPOSE:To attain rapid processing by displaying the surface model of an object having a three-dimensional shape together with its shadow by hardware. CONSTITUTION:The graphic display device is provided with a display model signal supplying source 1 for dividing the surface of a three-dimensional shape model into planes and supplying signals each of which consists of a face number and numerized positional information, the 1st and 2nd coordinate transforming/ sampling means 2, 3 for executing a prescribed transformation/sampling of the face numbers and the numerized positional information obtained at the time of observing the model from the 1st and 2nd positions, the 1st and 2nd depth algorism buffers 4, 5 for storing sampled signals, a coordinate transforming device 6 for transforming coordinate data corresponding to the positional information read out by the buffer 4 into coordinate data in the coordinate system of the buffer 5, and a deciding device 7 for deciding the validity of a shadow. Consequently, an image with a shadow can be extremely rapidly plotted.
