    Abstract: Conventional transformers with fractional turns have pre-manufactured cores usually with a complicated structure. According to the present invention, a method is provided of manufacturing a planar transformer where a ferrite polymer compound is laminated to a PCB for forming the core of the transformer. Advantageously, this may allow for the provision of a cheap and robust transformer.

    Abstract: Resonant gate driver circuits provide for an efficient switching of, for example, a MOSFET. However, often an operation of the resonant gate driver circuit does not allow for an application where high switching frequencies are required. According to the present invention, a pre-charging of the inductor of the resonant gate drive circuit is performed. This allows for a highly energy efficient and fast operation of the MOSFET.

    Abstract: A converter includes circuit elements for chopping a DC voltage, in which switch-on phases of the circuit elements are alternating. A circuit assembly with resonant elements is used for processing the chopped DC voltage and for producing an output voltage. The voltage present at one of the circuit elements is compared with a threshold in a dead time phase before the circuit element is switched on. The comparison result is used to determine whether an inductive or capacitive converter load is present. Alternatively, a differential quotient of the voltage present at one of the circuit elements during the dead time phase is used to determine whether an inductive or capacitive converter load is present.
