A gas discharge lamp (1) has a quartz glass lamp tube 50-110 mm long and first (4) and second (3) facing electrodes. A discharge chamber (5) is near the center of the lamp tube. The first electrode has an inner electrode (43) and an outer electrode (41) for outer contact with a molybdenum foil (42). The molybdenum foil connects the outer electrode to the inner electrode near the lamp tube's pinch.

High pressure discharge lamp comprises an inner bulb (1) with a discharge chamber, electrodes extending into the discharge chamber, and optionally an outer bulb (2) surrounding the inner bulb. The discharge chamber has an ionizable filling made from a noble gas, 0-10 mg mercury and a metal halide mixture containing 40-80 wt.% sodium halide, 25-55 wt.% scandium halide, 1-15 wt.% indium halide, and 0-34 wt.% thallium halide. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Ionizable filling made from a noble gas, 0-10 mg mercury and a metal halide mixture containing 40-80 wt.% sodium halide, 25-55 wt.% scandium halide, 1-15 wt.% indium halide, and 0-34 wt.% thallium halide; and (2) Illuminating unit, especially a vehicle headlight, containing the high pressure discharge lamp.

The invention relates to a lamp for a vehicle headlight with low-beam function, which lamp has an outer envelope and emits at least visible light of different colors from several regions of the outer envelope, characterized in that in that a partial coating is at least provided on the outer envelope such that, when the low-beam function is being realized, at least that region of the traffic space which lies above the bright-dark cut-off can be at least partly illuminated with visible colored light which is scattered at said partial coating, while at the same time that region of the traffic space which lies below the bright-dark cut-off can be illuminated with visible light of a different color in defined regions.

The invention describes a gas-discharge lamp (1) comprising a vessel (5), which vessel is partially coated with an essentially rectangular stripe (Sv) arranged circumferentially on a surface of the vessel, and wherein a first long side (14) of the stripe is situated close to a base (6) of the lamp, and the width (wv) of the stripe is such that a first angle (a?2) subtended at a lamp centre between a radius (r) and a point on the first long side (14) of the stripe comprises at most 55°, and a second angle (av1) subtended at the lamp centre between the radius and a point on a second long side (15) of the stripe comprises at most 50°. The invention also describes a reflector for a lamp, comprising a reflective interior surface realised to deflect light originating from the lamp outward to give a specific beam profile with a bright/dark cutoff line and a shoulder, and wherein the lamp, in particular a lamp as described above, is positioned horizontally in the reflector, and wherein the reflective interior surface comprises at least one beam-shaping region realised to deflect a portion of the light emitted from the lamp between 7.5° and 15° below a horizontal plane, at a specific region within the beam profile.

The lamp (1) has an outer envelope (18) that is connected at each of its ends to respective ones of the tubular sections (6, 7) of the inner envelope (2) and that surrounds the discharge vessel (3) while leaving an outer cavity (20) between itself (18) and the discharge vessel (3). Arranged on the outside of the inner envelope (2), at least in a region or regions, is a conductive coating (22, 23) that is conductively connected, inside the outer envelope (18), to one (11) of the electrical conductors. Also described is a corresponding method of producing a gas-discharge lamp (1).

The invention also describes a reflector (8) for a lamp (1), comprising a reflective interior surface realised to deflect light (L20A, L20B, L21A, L21B) originating from the lamp (1) outward to give a specific beam profile (3) with a bright/dark cut-off line (31) and a shoulder (32), and wherein the lamp (1), in particular a lamp (1) according to any of claims 1 to 12, is positioned horizontally in the reflector (8), and wherein the reflective interior surface comprises at least one beam-shaping region (81 A, 81B) realised to deflect a portion (L21A, L21B) of the light (L20A, L20B, L21A, L21B), emitted from the lamp (1) between 7.5° and 15° below a horizontal plane (P), at a specific region (21A, 21B) within the beam profile (3).
