    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described to support security techniques for ranging in wireless networks. A first device may transmit an indication to initiate a ranging procedure with a second device, and in response to the indication, the second device may transmit signaling to the first device and to one or more third devices. The first device and the one or more third devices may each determine a respective location metric associated with the second device based on the signaling. The one or more third devices may each transmit, to the first device, the respective location metric. Based on the communicated location metric(s), the first device may determine whether an eavesdropper is present and may communicate with the second device based on the determination.

    Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for establishing directional communications between two communication nodes via a configurable reflective surface. In some aspects, an assisting node (AN) may control a reflection characteristic (which may dictate or influence how signals reflect off of the configurable reflective surface) in accordance with parameters or configurations for directional communication between the two communication nodes. For example, the AN may use a first beam for directional communication with the first node and a second beam for directional communication with the second node, and the AN may control the reflection characteristic in accordance with an inferred incident direction of signaling at the configurable reflective surface and a desired reflected direction of the signaling from the configurable reflective surface that are associated with the first beam and the second beam, respectively.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first user equipment (UE) may be associated with a reconfigurable surface for reflecting transmissions between second and third UEs (e.g., over sidelink resources). In one example, the first UE may transmit signaling indicating that retransmissions of a first message transmitted between a second and third UE and detected by the first UE may be reflected by the reconfigurable surface associated with the first UE. In another example, the first UE may receive a request from a second UE for signal enhancement using a reconfigurable surface, the request associated with a future transmission by the second UE to a third UE. In either case, the UE may determine to perform signal enhancement using a reconfigurable surface and may then reconfigure the reconfigurable surface for reflecting transmissions or retransmissions from the second UE to the third UE.

    Abstract: Aspects presented herein may enable one or more wireless devices to perform a sidelink-based ranging and/or positioning with an assistance of an RIS. In one aspect, a first wireless device receives an information indicating at least a time in which at least one RIS is to be activated. The first wireless device transmits a first set of reference signals to a second wireless device via the at least one RIS. The first wireless receives a second set of reference signals transmitted from the second wireless device via the at least one RIS. The first wireless calculates a first signal RTT based on the first set of reference signals and the second set of reference signals.

    Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a method of wireless communication performed by a first pedestrian user equipment (PUE) includes performing a ranging operation to a set of UEs, the set including at least a second PUE, and providing ranging data to a third entity, the third entity comprising a vehicle user equipment (VUE) or a road-side unit (RSU). The set of UEs may be randomly selected or selected using a selection algorithm. The set of UEs may be selected by the PUE or by the third entity. The ranging data may include the location of the first PUE, and may include a report on the battery status of the first PUE. The third entity may use the ranging data to update estimated positions of the first PUE and the set of UEs.

    Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a first wireless communication device may determine that a second wireless communication device is to communicate with a third wireless communication device using one or more beams that pass through a target area. The first wireless communication device may obtain information indicating a first object that is approaching the target area and that has a beam blocking size above a threshold. The first wireless communication device may cause the one or more of the second wireless communication device or third wireless communication device to adjust usage of the one or more beams during an expected blockage time in the target area.
