Abstract:
Cathode-ray tube comprises a target structure including a viewing screen comprised of a mosaic of phosphor areas of different emission colors, and an apertured mask having therein an array of apertures registered with phosphor areas of said screen. The target structure includes also a heat-absorbing halftone pattern on the relatively heat-reflecting target surface facing the mask for providing tailored radiative heat transfer from the mask to the screen and, in some embodiments, tailored attenuation of the electron beam.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an improved cathode-ray tube of a type having a cathodoluminescent line screen and slit apertured mask mounted within the tube in spaced relation to the screen, wherein the slits in the mask are aligned in substantially parallel columns, each column containing a plurality of slits which are vertically separated by web portions of the mask. In the tube, some of the end portions of the aperture columns are modified to produce a more asthetically pleasing screen border.

Abstract:
A cathode-ray tube eg. a shadow mask colour tube, includes a rectangular faceplate which has an exterior surface having curvature along both the minor (Y-Y) and major (X-X) axes wherein at least in the center portion of the faceplate, the curvature along the minor axes is greater than the curvature along the major axis (as shown in Figure 6). In a preferred arrangement the curvature along the minor axis is at least 4/3 greater than the curvature along the major axis. The arrangement provides a substantially rectangular contour near the periphery of the faceplate lying in a plane P thus creating an illusion that a picture produced on the faceplate is flat. The faceplate may be associated with a shadow mask which similarly has greater curvature along its minor axis than along its major axis. Variations in the thickness of the faceplate are also discussed.

Abstract:
Improvement is provided in the appearance of a color picture type cathode-ray tube including rectangular faceplate with an exterior surface having curvature along both the minor (Y-Y) and major (X-X) axes. At least in the center portion of the faceplate, the curvature along the minor axis is at least 10 percent greater than the curvature along the major axis. Points on the exterior surface near the ends of the major axis, at the edges of the screen, lie in a first plane (P1) perpendicular to the central axis (Z-Z) of the tube; points on the exterior surface near the ends of the minor axis, at the edges of the screen, lie in a second plane (P2) which is spaced from and parallel to the first plane; and points on the exterior surface near the ends of the diagonals of the rectangular faceplate, at the edges of the screen, lie in a third plane (P3) which is spaced from and parallel to the first plane. The three planes are spaced from the center portion of the faceplate in the order of second plane, first plane and third plane. Further relative dimensions are detailed.
