Abstract:
A method of applying protective sheeting (9) of polymer material to a pipeline (1) extending along a longitudinal axis (A1) and having a cutback (8) bounded at opposite axial ends by two end portions (10) of respective protective coatings (5) of polymer material, the method including directly heating the free faces of the end portions (10); extruding and simultaneously winding about the pipeline (1) a protective sheeting (9) wide enough to cover the cutback (8) and the end portions (10); and compressing the protective sheeting (9) against the pipeline (1), the end portions (10) included.
Abstract:
A system for field internally coating a pipe joint comprising a polymer application unit (5), which has: - a first cart (14) configured to selectively advance inside a pipe (3); - a first and a second tank (15, 16) configured to contain a first and a second polymer component respectively; - a mixer (17) to mix the first and the second component; - a first and a second pump (18, 19) to feed the first and the second component respectively from the first and the second tank (15, 16) to the mixer (17); - an applicator (20) to apply the polymer to the pipe (3); and - a conduit (21) comprising a free end configured to be placed near the applicator (20) to feed the polymer from the mixer (17) to the applicator (20).
Abstract:
A machine (12) for making a protective joint has a guide system (26), which is selectively clampable about a pipeline (1) on opposite sides with respect to the annular junction portion (8) and configured for defining an annular path about the annular junction portion (8); at least one heating unit (18) moveable along the annular path and configured for heating the annular junction portion (8) and moveable along the annular path; at least one spray unit (19) moveable along the annular path and configured for applying at least one polymer material to the annular junction portion (8); and an extrusion die (22) moveable along the annular path and configured for applying a protective foil (9) about the annular junction portion (8).
Abstract:
An apparatus (20) for applying protective sheeting (9) of polymer material around a cutback (8) on a pipeline (1) has a frame (21) located close to a pipeline (1) extending along a longitudinal axis (Al); a manipulator (23) fitted to the frame (21) and having a guide system (37) movable between a rest position at a distance from the pipeline (1), and a work position in which the guide system (37) is fitted around the pipeline (1); and an extrusion die (27) movable selectively along the guide system (37) and around the pipeline (1) to supply and apply protective sheeting (9) around the cutback (8) on the pipeline (1).
Abstract:
A method of applying protective sheeting (12) of polymer material to a pipeline (P), preferably on a J-lay rig, includes the steps of driving a carriage along an annular path about the pipeline (P); extruding and simultaneously winding the protective sheeting (12) about the pipeline (P) by means of an end extrusion die (47) fitted to the carriage; compressing the protective sheeting (12) on the pipeline (P), directly downstream from the end extrusion die (47), so the protective sheeting (12) adheres to the pipeline (P); and controlling the drive, extrusion, and compression steps so that the time lapse between expulsion of a cross section (SI) of protective sheeting (12) from the end extrusion die (47) and compression of the same cross section (SI) of protective sheeting (12) is less than one second.
