PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated cutting tool with improved performance for milling of steels. SOLUTION: A coated super alloy insert (cutting tool) is particularly useful for dry or wet milling of steels. The coated cutting tool for milling comprises a super alloy body which includes WC, NbC, TaC, and a W-alloyed Co binder phase, and a coating which includes an innermost layer of TiC x N y O z with equiaxed grains, a layer of TiC x N y O z with columnar grains and a layer of αAl 2 O 3 . PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated tool with enhanced machining performance for steel and stainless steel. SOLUTION: A cutting tool insert has a cemented carbide base material and a coating and is useful for wet or dry machining of, especially, steel or stainless steel. SOLUTION: The coating film is constituted of one or a plurality of layers of a refractory compound. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tip, which is a coated cutting tool (coating tip) for turning of steel at high cutting speeds, having excellent deformation resistance, high wear resistance, and toughness. SOLUTION: The coated cutting tool comprises a cemented carbide body coated with α-Al 2 O 3 of (006) orientation. The cemented carbide body contains metal forming 4.5-6.5 wt.% of Co and 3-10 wt.% of cubic carbide. A value S is 0.77-0.92 and coercive force is 10-20 kA/m. Thickness of α-Al 2 O 3 layer is within a range of 7-12 μm, and the layer is composed of columnar crystal grains having a ratio of length/width within a range of 2-12 and formed on an MTCVD Ti(C, N) layer having thickness of 4-12 μm by evaporation.
