Abstract:
A liquid crystal aligning agent comprising a polyamic acid containing an aliphatic and/or alicyclic hydrocarbon group and a polyimide containing an aliphatic and/or alicyclic hydrocarbon group; and a liquid crystal display device using the liquid crystal aligning agent. This liquid crystal aligning agent gives a liquid crystal aligning film which has good liquid crystal aligning property and in which pretilt angle can be changed by radiation with a small energy and which is suitable for domain-divided alignment type liquid crystal display having a wide view angle.
Abstract:
A method of producing a liquid crystal display device which has a pair of substrates sandwiching a liquid crystal layer comprises the step of forming a film (10) on one of the substrates. The film is then irradiated with light (15) to provide the film (10) with the desired pretilt angles ( alpha , beta ) and providing an aligning property to the film (10).
Abstract:
The present invention provides a mirror display which prevents the boundary line between a frame region and a display region from being observed in a mirror mode and which thus has improved design quality. The mirror display of the present invention includes a half mirror plate including a half mirror layer, and a display device disposed behind the half mirror plate, the display device including a display panel and a frame component that supports a peripheral portion of the display panel, and the mirror display including a reflectance adjuster that makes equal the reflectance in a display region where the half mirror layer and the display panel face each other and the reflectance in a frame region where the half mirror layer and the frame component face each other.

Abstract:
In a driving circuit for a liquid crystal apparatus, a DC offset voltage the level of which changes depending upon the level of input video signals is applied input video signal. The DC voltage which appears in the liquid crystal and the level of which changes depending upon the level of input video signals can be completely compensated.
Abstract:
A liquid crystal display comprises a pair of wiring electrodes disposed opposite each other sandwiching a liquid crystal layer therebetween, electrodes (74) formed on a liquid crystal layer side of each of said substrates, and a matrix array of pixels each formed between a pair of opposing electrodes (74) on said substrates. Each of said electrodes (74) provided on one of said paired substrates and corresponding to one pixel is formed in a comb-like shape with teeth (74a) thereof extending substantially parallel to an average orientating direction (D-D') of liquid crystal molecules projected on said substrate.

Abstract:
A liquid crystal display apparatus of the invention includes a pair of substrates (31,32) and a liquid crystal layer (33) sandwiched between the pair of substrates with alignment films (31b,32b) formed at interfaces between the liquid crystal layer and the respective substrates. The alignment films regulate aligning conditions of liquid crystal in the liquid crystal layer. In the liquid crystal display apparatus, the liquid crystal layer includes two or more liquid crystal layer regions of different aligning conditions, and at least one of the alignment films has surface tensions, or oxygen atom concentrations or carbonyl radical concentrations, which are different from each other in surface regions thereof corresponding to the respective liquid crystal layer regions of different aligning conditions. For example, the alignment film is selectively irradiated with light (35) through a mask (11) while a gas including at least one of oxygen and ozone is in contact with the alignment film.
Abstract:
A liquid crystal display apparatus comprising a pair of insulating substrates (10, 20), a large number of picture element electrodes (12) disposed in a matrix on the inner surface of one (10) of the pair of substrates, respective function element (15) electrically connected to each of the picture element electrodes (12), and a liquid crystal layer (30) disposed between the pair of substrates (10, 20), the display apparatus further comprises on one of the substrate. An insulating protective film (16) made of inorganic nitrides or inorganic oxides is provided on one of the substrates the insulating protective film (16) being formed on the picture element electrode except for areas that constitute window regions. An orientation film (17) of a polyimide resin is formed on the entire surface of the insulating protective film and window region, the orientation film (17) having been rubbing-processed, whereby the occurrence of an internal polarization phenomenon can be prevented when a polyimide resin is used for the orientation film.
