Abstract:
A display system includes a liquid crystal display (10) including a backlight (3), a liquid crystal display panel (1), and a viewing angle control panel (2) for controlling the viewing angle of the display panel (1), the display system causing the amount of external light reflected by the liquid crystal display (10) to be relatively larger than the amount of light leaked from the backlight (3) onto the liquid crystal display panel (1). This provides a display system having an enhanced blocking effect.
Abstract:
A liquid crystal display device is provided which comprises a liquid crystal panel in which a liquid crystal having a negative dielectric constant anisotropy is sandwiched between first and second substrates (91, 92), and at least one of said first and second substrates (91, 92) includes domain regulating means for regulating said liquid crystal to be oriented in a plurality of azimuths when a voltage is applied to said liquid crystal. The liquid crystal display device also comprises first and second polarizing plates (11, 15) placed both sides of said liquid crystal panel and at least one phase difference film (95), whose inplane dielectric constants n x and n y and dielectric constant n z in a direction of thickness thereof have the following relation: n x , n y ≥ n z (except n x = n y = n z ), which is placed in at least one of spaces between said liquid crystal panel and one of said first and second polarizing plates (11, 15) and between said liquid crystal panel and the other thereof.
Abstract:
A liquid-crystal display apparatus (10) having a plurality of pixels comprises a pair of substrates (12,14); a liquid crystal (16) having a negative dielectric anisotropy inserted between the two substrates (12,14); first and second electrodes (18,22) formed on the substrates (12,14), respectively, and first and second alignment control structures (30,44;32,46) formed linearly on the substrates (12,14) for controlling the alignment of the liquid crystal. The first and second alignment control structures (30,32,44,46) are bent in a zigzag fashion and extend parallel with each other, and at least one of the alignment control structures (30,32;44,46) includes a linear portion and a narrow portion (58) having a width narrower than the width of the linear portion. In some embodiments wider portions (56) are interspersed with the narrower portions (58). The wider and narrower portions act as alignment boundaries.
