    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adequately discriminate many optical ribbons and distinguish the optical ribbons from each other by the inspection of only the ribbons without depending upon position information by string optical fiber ribbons marked in binary code. SOLUTION: An optical fiber ribbon 12 has ribbon subunits 21 and 22 which can be mutually separated and they have different binary codes on them. Binary codes in a rectangular shape are preferable while the use of Arabic numbers and English letters is avoided. The ribbon subunit 21 is given the binary code 20 and the ribbon subunit 22 is given the binary code 20. The ribbon subunit 21 houses plural optical fibers 26 and the ribbon subunit 22 houses plural optical fibers 14. The optical fibers 14 and 26 have surfaces in mutually different colors so that they can be distinguished from each other. The optical fibers should be in light colors so that the read of the ink codes is not impeded.
