    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for preventing inconvenient undercooling in an edge area of a cast strand. SOLUTION: The flow 10 rich in energy of a cooling medium is formed, and straightened in the water-flowing direction to the edge area 11, the flowing water 9 is changed in direction from the edge area 11, and discharged in an outflow opening 12 present in both sides of a cast strand 6 of a secondary cooling chamber 8. Spray nozzles 17 to form the flow 10 rich in the energy and arranged to an outflow outlet are provided in a row. The spray nozzles 17 are provided on the upstream working side of the cast strand 6 on a bottom opening 7 belonging to the secondary cooling chamber 8 at a relatively small distance, and the large number of spray nozzles are arranged in each row 15 in the width direction, and connected to a feed pipe 18 via reducers 1-5.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a strand guide roller of a strand guide device for guiding a cast strand. The strand guide roller includes at least one first and one second sectional roller arranged next to each other, wherein the first sectional roller has a roller journal at its end surface adjacent to the second sectional roller. The strand guide roller includes a middle bearing, between both sectional rollers, for receiving and supporting the roller journal of the first sectional roller. In order to improve strand guidance by increasing the bearing surface of the strand, it is suggested, according to the invention, that the first and second sectional rollers be connected with each other outside of the middle bearing by a plug-in connection. Then, according to the invention, the middle bearing is formed as unsplit separate bearing with an essentially smaller window width in comparison with a split bearing.
