Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for preventing inconvenient undercooling in an edge area of a cast strand. SOLUTION: The flow 10 rich in energy of a cooling medium is formed, and straightened in the water-flowing direction to the edge area 11, the flowing water 9 is changed in direction from the edge area 11, and discharged in an outflow opening 12 present in both sides of a cast strand 6 of a secondary cooling chamber 8. Spray nozzles 17 to form the flow 10 rich in the energy and arranged to an outflow outlet are provided in a row. The spray nozzles 17 are provided on the upstream working side of the cast strand 6 on a bottom opening 7 belonging to the secondary cooling chamber 8 at a relatively small distance, and the large number of spray nozzles are arranged in each row 15 in the width direction, and connected to a feed pipe 18 via reducers 1-5.

Abstract: Device for coating the surface of a metal strip (2) with a metallic coating comprises a channel (6) having a gap with larger dimensions than the width of and the thickness of the strip to be coated; and sealing units (8) for preventing the run-off of the molten coating material (7). The channel is formed as a coating channel through which the metal strip is guided and through which the molten coating material flows. The sealing units comprise units for accelerating the introduction of the coating material into the coating channel. Preferred Features: The sealing units comprise lines which open into the coating channel, and units which displace the coating material within the lines. The lines are flow channels (9a, 9b) arranged within a coating cell (3). The coating cell has a run-off surface for excess coating material.
