    Abstract: Particles of alloys of a noble metal chosen from among iridium, osmium, palladium, platinum, rhodium and ruthenium, hereafter represented by M, with at least one non-noble metal chosen among silver, bismuth, cadmium, cobalt, copper, tin, germanium, indium, manganese, mercury, molybdenum, nickel, gold, lead, rhenium, thallium, tellurium, technetium, tungsten, vanadium and zinc, hereafter referred to as Me', and Me', representing at least one non-noble metal, characterized in that they correspond to the general formula MnMe'm where n represents an integer equal to 1, 2 or 3 and where m represents an integer equal to 1, 2 or 3, and in that their specific surface area is between 0.5 and 800 m2/g of alloy and in that the mean diameter of the alloy particles is between 10 and 10,000 A. The particles are prepared by reducing the mixed oxides of the corresponding formula MnMe'mOx They are used as catalyst for dehydrogenation or hydrogenation.

    Abstract: 1301399 Polymerization catalyst SOLVAY & CIE 16 Dec 1970 [17ÀDec 1969] 59712/70 Heading C3P A Ziegler-Natta type catalyst is prepared by reducing liquid TiCl 4 , TiBr 4 or VCl 4 with a liquid organometallic compound of a metal of Groups I to III in the presence of a porous inert support, separating and (if required) heating the product, then activating the resulting supported reduced halide with an organometallic compound of a metal of Groups I to III. The reduction is carried out by first impregnating the support with one reatant then adding it to the second reactant which is in the form of a pure liquid or a solution, the non-supported reactant being used in excess if it is a pure liquid and either in excess or in the stoichiometric proportion if it is in solution. The use of Al 2 O 3 , TiO 2 and MgO as support materials is described; the supports are in the form of rounded bodies of diameter 50-250 Á composed of agglomerated particles, the individual particles having diameter 0À2-2 Á. Bulk polymerization of propylene and copolymerization of ethylene and propylene in liquid propylene are described, using catalysts derived from TiCl 4 , reduced with Et 3 Al, (i-Bu) 3 Al or Et 2 AlCl and activated with Et 2 AlCl.
