    Abstract: In order to display a video signal having an aspect ratio of 4 to 3 on a video display screen having a 16 to 9 aspect ratio a nonlinear vertical deflection signal is used to compress the video image along the top and bottom edges of the 16 to 9 aspect ratio screen. The video image is compressed only along the top and bottom edges of the screen because it has been found that motion of the point of view of the viewer relative to the displayed image is generally horizontal but is infrequently vertical. One approach to providing the non-linear vertical deflection waveform is to detect whether the input video signal for display on a 16 to 9 aspect ratio screen is a 4 to 3 aspect ratio signal and, if so, to read out special, non-linear data from a memory. This special waveform data is used to generate the non-linear vertical deflection waveform. If the input video signal is detected to be a 16 to 9 aspect ratio signal, standard data is read out from the memory to be used to generate the appropriate linear vertical deflection waveform.

    Abstract: In order to display a video signal having an aspect ratio of 4 to 3 on a video display screen having a 16 to 9 aspect ratio a nonlinear vertical deflection signal is used to compress the video image along the top and bottom edges of the 16 to 9 aspect ratio screen.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify an operation for a game, which is executed by connecting a game machine to a television device, by providing a switching circuit which changes over a system to a game mode for inputting the signal of an input terminal to a video display part and a voice output part in response to an input signal from a game machine selection switch. CONSTITUTION:In addition to an input terminal T1 for a video 1 and an input terminal 2 for a video 2, an input terminal T3 for the game machine is provided as external input terminals. Video/voice signals from the external terminals become the inputs of an input mode switching circuit 2 in parallel to a signal from a broadcasting reception part 1. Furthermore, a power output terminal T4 for the game machine for supplying DC power for game machine 11 to an external part is provided. Although the terminals T1 and T2 are provided at the back of a device main body, the input terminal for game machine T3 and the power output terminal T4 are collectively arranged in front of the device main body. The voice input terminal and the video input terminal of right/left channels are included in the terminal T3. The game machine selection switch included in a keyboard 8 is collectively arranged in front of the device main body with the terminals T3 and T4.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the electronic equipment in which an initial position of a cursor is highly possibly located at a required location for the user by providing a storage means storing continuously the cursor position on a display screen. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 6 outputs an RGB signal representing a television operation menu and a cursor. A CRT 10 displays a picture represented by a received RGB signal, e.g. a menu for television control together with a cursor 20. The microcomputer 6 stores the position of the cursor displayed on the CRT 10 to a nonvolatile memory 12. Since the nonvolatile memory 12 stores continuously the position of the cursor even when a power supply is interrupted, the microcomputer 6 reads the content of the nonvolatile memory 12 when power is restored later and displays the cursor 20 together with the menu on the CRT 10, then the position of the cursor 20 is a position just before the power supply interruption. Thus, the revision of the user for the cursor position is possibly less and the operability of the user is improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make phase correction, etc., easy or unnecessary, and simultaneously, to realize a device inexpensively by removing a noise component by inverting the noise component and mixing it to a first signal. CONSTITUTION:The high frequency band component of an input signal inputted to an input terminal 1 is separated by a high pass filter 2. The noise component is included in this high frequency band component together with the signal. In a coring circuit 3, a small amplitude component ec is considered to be a noise component, and is extracted from the high frequency band component by coring using a clip circuit. The extracted small amplitude component ec is DC-cut by capacitor C3 coupling, and is inverted by the gain of a multiplying factor 1 by an inverting amplifier 4, and is mixed to the first input signal by a mixing part 5. Thus, only the noise component in the first input signal cancels each other, and the input signal is sent to a later stage from an output terminal 6 as the signal free from the noise.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the picture distortion attended with the reduction of high voltage caused by a beam current by providing a first and a second ABL circuits and switching the threshold level of the second ABL circuit more than two stages according to an input mode. CONSTITUTION:A titled receiver provides the first ABL(automatic brightness limit) circuit 20 which detects the mean value of the beam current from one end of the high voltage winding of a flyback transformer 1 and the second ABL circuit 10 which detects a peak value and the threshold level of the second ABL circuit 10 be switched more than two stages according to the input mode. When the external RGB signal of a character multiplex decoder and a personal computer, etc., is inputted, the actuating point of the ABL circuit is made to be in a direction in which the beam current is suppressed more quickly than other modes. The picture distortion attended with the reduction of the high voltage by the beam current can be improved.

At the same time, sound caused by the external signal source is radiated from speakers 17 and 18. Simultaneously, the resistance value of an electronic variable register of a sound detector circuit 7 is increased by a switching signal from the computer 30 and output of the detector circuit 7 is cut off. Accordingly, judging signal is not outputted from a multiplex mode judging circuit 10. Therefore, a light emission diode 41 is not lit up, and characters that indicate a multiplex mode are not displayed independently of sound caused by the external signal source.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide television, for which the operating noise of a relay is removed, at low cost by performing the switching of a wide mode and a normal mode while using a horizontal deflection size switching circuit composed of a switching element. SOLUTION: At the horizontal deflection size switching circuit, one terminal (a) of an inductor L1 is connected through a diode D1 to the collector of a transistor Tr 2. Besides, another terminal (b) of the inductor L1 is connected with the emitter of the transistor Tr 2. A capacitor C1 is connected between the collector and emitter of the transistor Tr 2 and a resistor 4 is connected between the emitter and base. With this connection, the transistor Tr 2 is operated as a switching transistor. A switch function is provided for short-circuiting the inductance L1 when the transistor Tr 2 is turned on and for serially connecting the inductance L1 to a horizontal parallel yoke L2 when the transistor Tr 2 is turned off. Thus, the wide television for suitably performing the fine control, etc., of a horizontal size can be provided at low cost.
