Abstract: PURPOSE: To simply select a function of the television receiver. CONSTITUTION: A main menu of a uppermost layer of a hierarchized menu comprising items corresponding to functions of a television receiver is displayed to a left side of screen of the television receiver, and when a cursor is moved to a first item 1 of the main menu, while the main menu is displayed on the screen as it is, a sub menu corresponding to the item 1 is displayed to the right side of the screen. Then the cursor is moved to a first item 'item 1-1' of the sub menu. The cursor is moved to a prescribed item in the items 'item 1-1' to 'item 1-3"' of the sub menu and a prescribed operation is applied to the selected item, the item is selected and confirmed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To deliver and receive a video signal with a higher grade Y/C signal when both of a composite signal and a Y/C signal can be delivered and received, in an AV system. CONSTITUTION:When an initialization setting processing is performed for an AV system, a blue back signal for test is generated in a video tuner 24, for instance, and a through connection is commanded to a VTR 25. In an AV center 21, which of a Y/C signal and a composite signal is detected is decided. In accordance with the detection result, the connection state between the video tuner 24 and the VTR 25 and the quality of the video signal to be transmitted by the connection is decided. The decision result is stored in the NVRAM incorporated in the AV center 21.
