Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically set and display channel information. SOLUTION: The tuning operation for selecting a broadcast channel is operated, whether or not extended data are superimposed on the selected channel is judged, and if so, the extended data are decoded, and channel information is extracted (S001-S003). Then, when the same information as the extracted channel information is not stored in a memory, it is stored in the memory (S004-S005). Also, when it is judged that the channel information is already stored in the memory, the received channel information is compared with the channel information stored in the memory, and only when the received channel information is updated, the received channel information is stored in the memory (S006-S005).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To scan a channel on a second screen-side by providing a channel mode for displaying the channel viewing a picture or viewing the picture as a first screen of a picture source on a first screen and sequentially displaying the picture of the plural channels, which are obtained by changing a station selection state, in a second screen. SOLUTION: A television receiver 1 has a function of a picture and picture (p&p) for displaying the two display screens in parallel and consists of double tuners having two tuners. When a scan key on a remote controller 2 is depressed and a system is set in the channel mode, two screens are displayed and the channels are sequentially scanned by using a sub-tuner, in parallel with the program of the channel which a user observes. When the keys containing the scan key of the remote controller 2 are depressed, the channel mode is released. the number of channels to be scanned is decided by the memory capacity of the television receiver.
