    Abstract: A focus control system for a video camera determines a first gradient indicative of a change in value of a predetermined frequency component in the video signal for first and second positions obtained from the signal of predetermined frequency component in the video signal sampled at the first lens position and at the second lens position, and determines a second gradient indicative of a change in value of the predetermined frequency component in the video signal for second and third lens positions obtained from the signal of the predetermined frequency component in the video signal sampled at the third lens position point, and the speed of longitudinal movement of the lens is controlled in accordance with changes in the first and second gradients, thereby permitting faster focusing and reducing the amount of overrun of the lens during such focusing.

    Abstract: A method of focus control for a video camera comprises the steps of detecting the maximum value of a luminance component in an image pickup signal; and adjusting a rotating position of a focusing ring of an image pickup lens on the basis of the result of the detection, including the further steps, when said maximum value is detected, of rotating said focusing ring for driving same at a low speed for a predetermined time to discriminate an increasing direction of the luminance component from a start point and, thereafter, until said luminance component exceeds a predetermined level, rotating the focusing ring at a high speed, and rotating the focusing ring at a low speed when said level is set to at least the predetermined level, thereby permitting faster focusing and reducing the amount of overrun of the lens during such focusing.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a constitution, to make a camera small in size and light in weight by respectively moving a first lens group and a second lens group along a zoom tracking curve in the lens system of a two-group constitution. SOLUTION: A lens barrel 1 is provided with a first lens group 2 and a second lens group 3. A microcomputer 6 possesses a memory where the zoom tracking curve is previously stored. The zoom tracking curve shows the moving loci of two lens groups 2 and 3 focusing at image pickup scenes for each zooming magnification at a constant object distance at respective positions, and plural zoom tracking curves are calculated for plural specified object distances at the time of designing the lens system. The lens groups 2 and 3 are respectively controlled by the microcomputer 6 so as to move along each zoom tracking curve of a specified object distance selected by a zooming position memory 7 and a focusing position memory 8.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide the camera unit in which an image pickup object is quickly switched by arranging a reflecting member to switch an object area. CONSTITUTION: This camera unit 11 is made up of a lens unit 11a, an image pickup means such as a CCD arranged to an image forming position of the lens unit 11a, and a mirror 12. The mirror 12 is rocked from its escaping position till its inserted position by a rotary shaft 12a provided to a front side upper part of the camera unit 11. The mirror 12 is driven around the rotary shaft 12a by a driver 15 and its angle is adjusted. When the mirror 12 is located at its inserting position, a light of a sample located on a sample placing board is led to the camera unit 11 via the mirror 12 and its image is formed on a light receiving face of the image pickup means. When the mirror 12 is in the escaping position, the object in front of the lens unit 11a is picked up.

Thus, the mountain climbing control can be performed at high speed, and simultaneously, overrun quantity at the time of detecting that the lens position passes over the maximum value of the evaluation value data on account of the mountain climbing control can be made minimum.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for conventional movable parts and to improve reliability by providing two faces shifted longitudinally in the direction of optical axis on the image forming face of an image pickup element and making automatic focus control utilizing the difference of contrast of the two faces. On the other hand, a gate signal generating circuit 15 is provided, and the image pickup output from the constitutional element 12F of the line is obtained from the gate circuit 12F, and the image pickup output from the constitutional element 12B of the line is obtained from the gate circuit 14B, and supplied respectively to contrast detecting circuits 16F and 16B. The difference of contrast is found by a comparator circuit 17, and the output of the difference is supplied to a focus controlling circuit 18, and the output of the circuit 18 is supplied to a motor for driving a focus ring.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To attain accurate focus discrimination quickly by applying focus control so that the integration value of the luminance component of the 1st frequency band extracted from an image pickup signal is a maximum value and discriminating whether or not an integration value of the luminance component in the 2nd frequency band in the 1st frequency band exceeds a prescribed level thereby discriminating the focusing state. CONSTITUTION:A central controller 12 applies focus control so that the integration value by an integration circuit 11 for the luminance component in the 1st frequency band depending on the 1st high pass filter 6a and a low pass filter 9 is a maximum value. Then the central controller 12 discriminates whether or not the integration value by the integration circuit 11 for the luminance component in the 2nd frequency band depending on the 2nd high pass filter 6b and the low pass filter 9 in the 1st frequency band exceeds a prescribed level to apply the focus discrimination. Thus, whether or not the focal state is consecutive is discriminated quickly and accurately without turning a focus ring.
