    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a high permeability amorphous magnetic alloy is disclosed. In the method amorphous magnetic alloy ribbon prepared by quenching a melt of raw material is annealed at an elevated temperature lower than a crystallization temperature of the alloy, in a magnetic field. During the annealing, the alloy ribbon and the direction of the magnetic field are relatively rotated with each other. The method is especially useful to an amorphous magnetic alloy having high saturation magnetic induction where the magnetic Curie temperature of the alloy usually exceeds the crystallization temperature of the alloy.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing an amorphous magnetic alloy having high permeability comprises the steps of: preparing an amorphous magnetic alloy ribbon having major surfaces; annealing said magnetic alloy ribbon at a temperature lower than the crystallization temperature of said alloy under the application of a first magnetic field in a first direction along said major surface for a period sufficient to induce a magnetic anisotropy in said first direction; and annealing said magnetic alloy ribbon at a temperature lower than the crystallization temperature of said alloy under the application of a second magnetic field in a second direction perpendicular to said first direction along said major surface until the induced magnetic anisotropies in said first and second directions become equal to each other.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve running property and durability as well as corrosion resistance by forming a carbon protective film on a thin magnetic metallic film and setting the contact angle of the carbon protective film surface with water at a specific value or above. CONSTITUTION:The thin metallic film is formed on a substrate and the carbon protective film is formed on the thin metallic film. The carbon protective film is subjected to a bombardment treatment so that the contact angle with water is made >=75 deg.. The contact angle with the water is an index for the affinity of the carbon protective film with the water and the affinity with the water is lower as the contact angle is larger. The corrosion of the thin magnetic metallic film is effectively prevented if the contact angle of the carbon protec tive film with the water is >=75 deg.. The running property and durability are thus improved and the excellent corrosion resistance is provided as well.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head superior in a reproduced output characteristic by executing heat treatment in a magnetic field after the heat treatment such as the joining of an amorphous magnetic core with a guard core, the adhesion of a gap spacer and joining for gap formation, or during the final heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:After heat treatment in the production process of the magnetic head or during the final heat treatment process, induction magnetic anisotropy generated at the formation of a core material is practically discharged. Namely, the end surfaces of respective amorphous magnetic cores 1 corresponding to respective blocks obtained by laminating and joining the amorphous cores 1 with the guard cores 2 are butted and a gap spacer is previously sputtered to form a magnetic gap (g). A head block 8 obtained by said procedure is arranged in the magnetic field of a permanent magnet 9 and heated by a heater 10 to heat the cores 1 in a rotating magnetic field. Then, the block 8 is separated so as to include the cores 1, so that head chips are obtained.
