Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce a running cost, by a method wherein a mechanism is not made into a large scale. CONSTITUTION:A cartridge 1 is arranged by turning an exposed part of a ribbon upward. A platen 6 is arranged on the undersurface side of a ribon 2 extended between a ribbon feed port and wind-up port of the cartridge 1. A printing head 7 is arranged on the top side of the ribbon 2. At the time of printing, printing paper 9 is fed between the undersurface of the ribbon 2 and platen 6, only the printing head 7 is moved in accordance with a printing action by a feed mechanism 8 and printing is performed. The cartridge 1 is not required to be moved, the cartridge can be enlarged without making a mechanism into a large scale and a running cost can be reduced drastically. Since the printing head 7 is arranged on the upper side of the cartridge 1, even if the cartridge 1 is enlarged and made into a horizontal feed printing method, the title printer does not become unstable structure and a space factor is not worsened also. Printing can be performed on the top of the printing paper 9 and a user can confirm immediately a printed result.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To ensure the feeding of tough or thick paper by a method wherein a paper feed roller is shaped into approximately a polygon with an outer surface of a plurality of plane parts, and the plane parts are brought into pressure contact with paper for feeding the paper. CONSTITUTION:The leading edge of a postcard 40 is fed forward while being grasped by a supply roller 44 and a presser roller 45. A printing operation is conducted in the condition that the postcard 40 is depressed against a platen 43 by a printer head 42. As the printing is conducted, the supply roller 44 feeds the postcard 40 toward a discharge roller 46 and a presser roller 47, thereby discharging the printed postcard 40 in front of a printer 11. A supply roller 18 in a postcard feeder 10 mentioned above has an approximately polygonal cross section and a peripherally with eight plane parts. Therefore, the supply roller 18 can increase a contact area with the postcard 40, thereby improving a frictional force.
