Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the opposing width of the comb-shaped electrodes and to increase the impedance by providing a diffusing means of surface waves at an outer edge part rolling approximately along the propagating direction of the surface wave of an electrode formed on a piezoelectric substrate. CONSTITUTION:The grooves 6 are cut above an input electrode 2, an output electrode 3 and an earth electrode 4 with a sawtooth-shaped pattern so that these grooves cross outer edges 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, 4a and 4b of electrodes 2-4 respectively. Thus a means 5 which diffuses undesired surface waves, and therefore the effects of undesired waves can be avoided. This reduces satisfactorily the opposing width (w) of comb-shaped electrodes and increases the impedance. Thus it is not needed that the distance (d) between the opposing part and the outer edge of an electrode is set there times as much as the wavelength. As a result, the overall size of a surface element can be reduced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the accuracy of position adjustment such as magnetic head, by reducing the residual displacement, through the use of a porcelain plate in non-ferro-dielectric phase within the operating temperature. CONSTITUTION:The position control of the magnetic head having narrow track width such as VTR etc. requires high accuracy and control is made by using electric mechanical conversion element, as the element, the electrodes 12a and 12b are coated on the both major planes, and two non-ferrodielectric porcelain plates in non- ferro dielectric phase within the operating temperature are constituted for the element of bimorph construction by clipping the metal substrate 13, and one of the power supply 14 is connected to the substrate 13 and another is to the electrode 12a of the pocelain plate 11 via the switch 15. With this construction, one example of the displacement amount due to electrorestriction effect when the polarity of applied voltage is inverted is within + or - 1 mum for the residual displacement to the amplitude of + or - 45 mum and the residual displacement when the piezoelectric effect of the ferrodielectric porcelain is utilized as element is remarkably reduced and the positioning of head can be made with good accuracy.
