    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reproduce an optical disk which is recorded with high density by applying laser light to a nonlinear optical crystal matter from a semiconductor laser to produce an optical higher harmonic wave containing a 2omega component and then reading the pit information out of the optical disk with the light containing the 2omega component. CONSTITUTION:The type and the direction are selected for a crystal which can have 90 deg. phase matching with a frequency omega. Thus the light of wavelength omega is converted into the light of double frequency, i.e., the 2nd higher harmonic wave. The light of 2omega condensed on an optical lens 10 passes through again an objective lens 11 and 1/4lambda plate 10 to be reflected by 90 deg. by the 2nd polarized beam splitter 9 with modulation and dispersion done by the pit information and is made incident on a photodetecting element 13 via a BPF12 which transmits only the light of 2omega. The element 13 uses a PIN diode or an avalanche diode and produces an RF signal corresponding to the bit information read out by the light of 2omega. Thus it is possible to reproduce an optical disk which is recorded with high density.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To remove defects such as a large optical system, high production cost, a heavy movable part, and high power consumption by feeding back a focus error signal to a wavelength control means of a variable wavelength light source. CONSTITUTION:Laser light from a semiconductor laser 17 provided with a power source 18 is supplied to a hologram 20 through a beam splitter (BS) 19 and a laser beam focused in accordance with the wavelength of the laser light is made incident on the recording surface 5 of a disc. The reflected light is reflected by the BS19 and made incident on a photodetector 25 in which two photodetectors are concentrically arranged through a conical lens 24. The difference of signals from the BS19 is catched by an operator 26 and inputted to a wavelength control circuit 28 as a focus error signal SF and a high frequency signal is supplied to the semiconductor laser 17, so that the wavelength of the laser light is changed and the laser light is correctly focused on the recording surface 5. Since the movable part is removed, a defect due to the movable part is removed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the back talk noise, by using a reproducing signal obtained from a main optical detector and a compensating signal obtained from a sub- optical detector for forming a compensated reproducing signal. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam from a semiconductor laser light source 11 is made incident to a collimator lens through a polarized optical beam splitter 3 for bringing it into a parallel beam, and the collected beam of the parallel beam is irradiated on an optical recording medium(disc)7. Further, the beam irradiated from the optical recording medium, i.e., the reproducing beam subject to modulation is made incident to an optical detector 9, and the reproducing signal obtained from the optical detector 9 is applied to a head amplifier 11. Further, the monitor optical detector 2 is used as the sub-optical detector and the compensation signal is obtained from the detector. Moreover, the reproducing signal from the head amplifier (an amplifier with less change in the amplification factor due to temperature is desirable) 11 and the compensation signal from the amplifier 14 are applied to a subtractor 15 for subtraction. That is, the correcting signal is subtracted from the reproducing signal at the subtractor 15. Thus, the reproducing signal reduced with the back talk noise is obtained from an output terminal 12.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To correct both a tracking error and a time axial error, by storing the change of the eccentric extent of a disk while it turning one round and then controlling the point of detection of a pickup with the stored signal when the signal is reproduced. CONSTITUTION:Detectors 2 and 3 are set with a space smaller than the width of a bit 4 containing a photodetector formed on a track on a disk for example. Then the light is irradiated to the detectors to obtain signals. If a tracking error exists, the phase of output has a shift between the detectors 2 and 3 to obtain pulses PA and PB having inversion of phases with a half turn of the disk through waveform shaping circuits 5 and 6. With these pulses, a sine wave output S of a period per one round and a signal having a delay of pi/4 obtained via an up-down counter 8 and a D/A converter 9 respectively are stored. After this, the output signal is separated into a tracking error and a time axial error to be compared with the stored signal with each point of the same phase of revolution of the disk. Thus the position of a photoelectric transducer is controlled toward both the circumference and the diameter of revolution. In such way, both the tracking and time axial errors are corrected.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make a unit miniature, lightweight and simple by employing the constitution where light from a semiconductor laser light source is incident to the 1st off-axis hologram lens (OFL) to obtain a parallel beam, which after being incident to the 2nd OFL, changes into a focusing beam to irradiate a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A rectangular beam from semiconductor 1 is incident to the 1st off-axis hologram lens (OFL) 41, which projects a parallel beam slantingly upon the 2nd OFL42 arranged in parallel to the 1st OFL41, so that a focusing beam nearly perpendicular to the 2nd OFL42 will focus on recording medium 7. A reconstructed (diffracted) beam from recording medium 7 passes backward through the 2nd and 1st OFLs 42 and 41 and enters photodetector 9 via semiconductor laser 1, so that a reproduced signal can be obtained. The whole device is wobbled vertically or at right angles to the recording track to obtain focusing or tracking error signals from photodetector 9 respectively. Thus, the device can be made miniature and lightweight.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable direct reading of laser diameter by means of a counter, by supplementing the points of two or more levels set on the basis of the maximum power level, and measuring the beam diameter from the interval of these points. CONSTITUTION:An opening 16 is formed in part of a disc form rotating body 15, and a knife edge 2 is provided on each side, and the rotating body 15 is rotated at a constant speed V, so that a laser beam 1 may cross the knife edges 2. Since the point of pulse Sp is the point where the knife edges 2 do not cut off the laser beam 1, the output signal of an amplifier 4 is a voltage V corresponding to the maximum power level of the laser beam, and this voltage V is held.
